my medications have a list of side effects that make me wonder why I am taking them. Up to and including thoughts and suicidal tendencies, as well as potential kidney and heart problems, etc.

For legit medications, sometimes the trade off has to be made.

The long lists of "possible" side effects are so the company can't be sued for unexpected reactions. Paranoia can do the darndest things to a person.

Periodic banging noise from upstairs. No idea what it could be. Probably the landlady's dog. It tries to drink from the toilet, but the lid is usually down, so it tries and fails to lift it up.

Wouldn't be able to tell though. Even if I were to go look, my door is an impromptu alarm, due to the fact that it has three sets of hooks on it, making it a pain in the ass to close, and emitting a large cracking noise when opened.

E: Medicinal companies just want to cover their bases. Someone who was already predisposed to a poor heart has a heart attack, and there is no way to prove it wasn't the drugs that triggered it. Or an antidepressant doesn't quite work well enough for someone who was incredibly depressed, and they still have suicidal thoughts.

It's the incredibly vague effects that worry me. My medication has "may affect genitals" on it, as if that makes it clear as to what I should expect.

That could range from a super-powerful aphrodisiac to causing necrosis of the tissue. Gotta love the vagueness. Maybe they should just put 'May affect you in some way' and leave it at that.

Almost all medicine has a long list of POSSIBLE side effects, because reactions to medicine (and chemicals in general) differ greatly from person to person. The companies have to make sure they're not sued. I remember that a vaccine I got listed the frequencies for side effects, and the only thing in "one out of ten people" was basically "feeling a bit shitty". The next frequency was one in a hundred, etc.

I'm just glad NZ has at least superficial controls on this kind of stuff and suffering from mild death is not usually an issue when dealing with off-the-shelf medicines.

I swear, this building must be some kind of weirdness magnet. Earlier today, when my mother got up she heard some cat noises coming from outside. So she opens up the window and... there is a cat in the awning below the window. No idea how it got there since it is significantly higher than all surrounding surfaces. After some tries, we lure it in and open up the door for it to walk out... only for there to be another similar cat there. Both come in the apartment and start fighting. We manage to get both out and now they are at the stairwell staring at each other. None of the neighbors claim the cat are theirs, and the stairwell is locked so I have no idea how the second cat got in.

Odd thing is, they are both visibly well-cared for and have leashes on them (no info on that, though). Right now they are both screaming at people as they pass them by, not aided by the fact that the stairwell amplifies sounds.

EDIT: Turns out the two belonged to different people. Removing the more aggressive one (the owner came and took it back home) caused the other one to leave.

Turns out one of my comments got 2160 points O.o

I have had that a few times. Seems Imgur has little consistency as to what gets points and what does not.

Eh? Actually, it's pretty common for antidepressants in general to cause/increase suicidal thoughts, especially in people that were incredibly depressed. What happens, from what I understand, is the antidepressants work well enough the depressed person has more energy, more will, etc., and so actually have the motivation to do stuff... like off themselves, or think about it.

That's usually not a sign of medication malfunction, unfortunately. Just depression doing what it does.

The problem with many medications is we don't really know what they do, just that they do it.

Like taking a sledgehammer to a diesel engine and hoping it suddenly starts running again.

Only it actually works often enough to be worth the effort and grease stains.

It's just like Reddit. Post a comment in new thread that will be popular later or (easier) respond to a high-rated comment in an already somewhat popular thread.
