Has anyone spent a long time thinking they knew a definition of a word because everyone uses it that way...

But it turns out it is not ONLY incorrect, but that everyone uses it incorrectly on purpose?

Like when I hear people say Cryptic to mean... spooky.

Well, you have to think that 'cryptic' sounds more of a spoooooky term than a puzzling one.
It just sounds spooky, Cryyyyyyptic.

Are you sure they aren't saying "cryptish"? I can see where one might get confused, I'm not sure I've ever heard people use it to say spooky though.

Knowing Belgium, everyone will vote for themselves out of mistrust for anyone else, and some kind of weird direct democracy coalition will need to be formed from 11 million or so individuals.

It's known as the Oppai-Kaiju effect. The islands of Japan generate a sort anti-gravity field, which allows breasts to behave as if in microgravity. It's also what allows Godzilla and friends to become 50 stories tall, and lets ninjas run up the side of a skyscraper.

To be fair, the use of the word literally has changed enough that the high council of English majors that determine what the definitions in the dictionary are has added the alternate meaning of "figuratively" to the definitions list. (Which of course means it is its own antonym, but it is not even close to being the first word to be such.)

I was jogging. A cat ran onto the sidewalk, laid down, and stretched to take up as much of the sidewalk as possible.

You see this is because the people who write the dictionary have never heard of the term: Hyperbole.

What's the point of the new iPhone? It's slightly bigger, that's pretty much it. It's not worth standing in line overnight for unless has an app that causes it to perform fellatio on you pre-installed.
