I'm having a distinct and shocking impression that most guitar players try to learn every scale on the whole fretboard instead of memorizing seven shapes on the first three strings which repeat themselves in a patter that is very easy to remember.

I mean seriously, I have found literally nothing indicating that you can learn it that way aside from some offhand mentions that the patterns repeat without any useful details.

That is a terrifying thought. I never even considered it.

There are more than 7 shapes, though.

Not diatonic. And if you're being strict, Locrian mode is not even diatonic.

I mean things like starting on the (relative) 3rd fret of the scale instead of the first, which by itself you 14 shapes in total (if you want to count Locrian).

I'm not sure if I'm understanding you right. If you start on a third note in a scale, you get the shape of the mode two steps later, so Phrygian for Ionian or Dorian for Aeolian.

Those anti-cigarette commercials that have been showing on Youtube without a way to skip them are really starting to piss me off. It's like, "Okay, we've warned people about the dangers of smoking and they still do it, what should we do next? I know! Let's treat cigarettes like tiny people who beat you up!"
Or, "Let's depict smoking as being like tearing big chunks of your skin off!"
Seeing how I am less than two years away from being (legally) able to smoke in my home state, I am issuing this ultimatum:

I will smoke one cigarette for every ten of those commercials I see before I turn 18.

Merely out of spite, mind you.

You know what's been pissing me off recently? Ads for responsible drinking. Feels like a personal insult, not to mention a bit of an oxymoron.
