Most developed countries still use coal actually. Germany, the UK, the US, Australia, Japan, South Korea. All of them are significant coal burners. It just usually doesn't make up most of their power sources.

Just remembered when my music teacher mentioned that Baba Yetu was from Civilization IV way back when I was in High School, someone actually asked "how is that possible?". He was... confused, IIRC. They knew it because our color guard did their practice to it (and when I noticed I was pretty damn happy about it, let me tell you).

I saw someone spell "Chewbacca" "Chubaka". This is a vaguely terrifying insight into the mind of the anime extremist.

Well, wet things are notoriously bad at being burnt. That said, you'd think the operators of a coal power plant would make some preparations for the possibility of weather happening.
I'm WTFing about that somebody still uses coal. In 21st century. This is sooooo 19th century guys.
Everyone still uses coal. Or possibly oil, in the middle east, but the point stands.

I remembered an inflatable punching toy, thing i used to have as a kid. That's all well and good, but for some unknown reason it scared the shit out of me. It just seems really odd for it to have scared me.

List

Quite a few islands don't use coal, but that's about it. Everyone uses coal, it's the cheapest energy source.*

*Well, except for nuclear**, but nuclear is the EVILS, so...
**Technically, large scale hydro might compete as well, if you run the plant long enough.

Nuclear isn't too competitive if you pay attention to all the externalities - I'd like to see their insurance contracts...

Even with externalities included, nuclear is still very completive. In fact, nuclear is the only power source which takes full on responsibility for all it's effects and results. I mean, coal plants only have to pay for a fraction of the costs of their output of radioactive and other particles.

Also, nuclear insurance are highly sought after. Plants have high engineering standards, extremely low risks, are reliable long term investment. Three miles island and Fukushima are the only reactors in which there was a significant cost for the insurer, and this often made up through joint-insurance and such. Really, the risk of a nuclear catastrophe is often overstated, and the fact that they can't be insured is just another fallacy made up by the anti-nuclear lobby. Nuclear insurance is a multi-billion industry.

Actually reliable information
