I could also agree with you on that. Again, they're improving. And maybe my impression of an article as a turd is fairly close to yours when you say barely adequate but I wanted to use a funnier word.

I also get the impression that they want a high article count, and are willing to live with poor quality articles rather than delete them in the hopes they improve or just act as filler.

Second, your experience with the SCP community may differ, but my experience as a reader suggests it's a bit of a circlejerk of praise and encouragement with some passive-aggressive "tips for improvement" thrown in as authorial posturing. Plenty of SCP ideas are just stupid or poorly executed. It's not the pure, beautiful distillation from the crucible of a writing community with savagely high standards. It's 2 great articles floating on top for every 8 turds. It's kitchen sink without restraint. And it is slowly improving. But it is not the best thing ever or impervious to criticism.

Check this page regularly to see what kind of stuff doesn't get in. So much as a single usage of the word "foot" instead of "meter" or "3x3 meter room" instead of "3x3x2" or the use of titanium to build stuff will get you torn apart.

Not to mention that one of the SCPs that was on that list for a while was written by Gears, who also wrote SCP-914, the 7th-highest-rated thing on the site.

I was actually excited.

It went so ridiculously bad I actually laughed once I stopped crying. I would have never expected it to be that bad in a million years.

Let me give you the blow-by-blow.

First few periods, fine. Nothing special here.

The next few periods, I started to get reaaaally uncomfortable. From what I'd seen of the tour, it had felt just a tad Orwellian what with kids being watched at all times. This was much worse. There were a few minor arguments with teachers and whatnot, and I put in to talk to (names) about it.(People who know me know) I can't work well at all when I'm pressured and uncomfortable.

I pushed a little too hard about the subject, then felt too meh to go where they wanted me to go. They did not respond well, by physically dragging me over to my locker and then shoving me into their time-out room which does appear to have been at least used as a padded cell. Three big teachers are as solid as any door.

It was hard to explain what was wrong in between crying and sobbing from being shoved. But I at least got out the feeling that I was not okay with it seeming like a behavior modification facility of dystopian proportions.

They promptly told  me that it actually WAS a behavior modification facility of dystopian proportions. Oh, and the guy (?) talked to me like he owned me and I couldn't back out. Which, judging from how my parents talked about it, is at least partly rooted in reality. He talked like he could just force my depression to go away somehow. Because somehow, dragging me into things when I feel too terrible to do them is going to spontaneously make the chemicals balanced again.

After that, I just waited.

Oh, and whoever I talked to while waiting for the bus (names) liked dystopian fiction.
