Pantech here. I can text people if it's a good day and if it's doing REALLY well, I can scroll through my contacts list. Pretty cool, eh?

That being said, it perturbs me greatly how absorbed kids on campus are in their phones. Probably a good 40-60% of the people I walk past have their noses buried in their phones, and that includes people walking through doors and up and down stairs. It's a dreadful thing, and nobody seems to think there's nothing wrong with navigating like human lemmings.

On that note, anyone remember being chided for reading books while walking between classes? What happened to that? The material has gotten smaller, dumber, and electronic, and suddenly the standard has turned.
I still get chided for reading in inappropriate places. Mostly when someone is speaking to me. Personally I think that I am perfectly justified in wanting to take in the information with the best intake/time, but some people don't agree.

The standard is what everyone does. Being avant-garde like us is a heavy burden, but someone has to do it.

I was playing DF, and suddenly I noticed blocks of pink discoloration in my taskbar and window edges.
I just ignore it, thinking that my graphic drivers are derping and will soon crash and restart, as usual.
Suddenly, NOPE, my screen becomes fucked up and freezes. Only recognizable thing is my cursor and music has stopped.

I really, REALLY don't want this laptop to die.

Asked a girl out, knew it wasn't going to work, but just for my piece of mind.

Now she's apologising repeatedly. No idea why. She hasn't done anything wrong. If anything it should be the other way round.  ???

Is she "apologising" or just apologising?

I opened up task manager to find out why the computer was running so slowly.

Java was using a gig of memory for no apparent reason.
Fuckin' computers, man.

A story I heard is that at Microsoft, some years ago the Windows team had a USB 'Death Cart', a little trolly with two connections, one for power, one for USB.

http://blogs.msdn.com/b/oldnewthing/archive/2004/07/26/197064.aspx

Quote
During the Windows 2000 project, we did something very similar. To test Plug and Play and to test the Driver Verifier, we created the "USB Cart of Death". We started with a 2 level cart similar to what you'd see in a library.

About ten 8port hubs were wired together, and then every port was filled with some different type of USB device. A USB steering wheel adorned the back of the cart, and a USB radio provided the antenna. Two cameras were one the front. All power went to a USB UPS. The entire cart, completely mobile, came down to two cables (power, USB). The final USB cable was plugged into a USB PCMCIA card.

We'd plug in the card into a laptop, watch the OS start up the 50 or so devices on it, and then (before or after it finished) we'd uncerimoneously yank the PCMCIA card. If a blue screen occured or the Driver Verifier detected a bug, the appropriate developer would be asked to look at the machine. In the meantime, the card would be wheeled to the next laptop, in hopes of finding a different bug.
