A lot of current games are no where close to as compressed as they used to.

Yet like websites these changes were brought about because of changes in the abilities of the technology around them. As people's internet became faster websites became more data heavy because it is more visually appealing.

For games the less compression occurs because it makes the game faster and requires less effort to do.

Well, that makes sense about being less compressed lets it run faster. Games further back were smaller so less file unpacking. I will say to it's advantage I don't need to swap out 6 CDs to play Shogun 2.

Well, that makes sense about being less compressed lets it run faster. Games further back were smaller so less file unpacking. I will say to it's advantage I don't need to swap out 6 CDs to play Shogun 2.

The first thing i think of when somebody mentions CDs is Starfleet Academy. I think that game had 8 CDs. One of my favorite games when i was a kid but i do not miss the CDs.

I managed to one-shot the Underprince in Vampire: The Masquerade: Redemption and thought I broke the game as a result. I had to search around the sewers for a good five minutes just to make sure I didn't skip any cutscenes like I did in the Temple of Set. Kind of a mild WTF moment but still, whenever I have a character in a video game that gets really powerful like that I always worry I might break the game said character is in and thus have moments like this.
