Made an awesome Wooden Reverser Coaster that somehow had an excitement rating over 8. I didn't even think that was possible.

Then it crashed, somehow. I didn't see it happen, but based on where it zoomed in, I think it stalled and the car started going backwards. It should have gone over that hill with a good 10mph to spare, even without people making it heavier.

A guy I've been friends with since 2004 seems to either have gone missing or is avoiding me all together. We were supposed to hang out this past Friday but he didn't show up, and usually he'd have called back and responded to my inquiries by now. I've stumbled upon a Russian blog post about the South African city of Johannesburg.

We've had to spend about nine hours in Johan. We've talked our friend Mikhail into going to the city centre. He has talked one kamikaze into taking us there. We foolishly thought that we only need to get to the centre and then, we'll show our Russian spirit to everyone.

From high in the plateau, Johannesburg seems to be a nice city. It's beautiful, large and modern. There are lots of high rises, English-style parks. There are Victorian buildings here and there. Green lawns, blue air...
When we went inside, the situation turned out to be bleak.
The city is abandoned.
There is no electricity.
No one takes out the trash.
The sewage doesn't work.
Only the roads heavily used by traffic are clear. Traffic lights are still working.
It is the city centre, where it is possible to drive somehow, and where there is a chance we won't be immediately killed.

Before going to the city, the driver, who was persuaded by Mikhail, gave us a briefing. He talked to us while constantly being on alert and looking around.

"If you want to fucking live, follow my instructions.
Do NOT make loud noises in the city!
Do NOT show off your cameras!
Do NOT flash your fucking iPhones near the windows!
Do NOT look the black people in the eyes!
And most importantly, do NOT open the car windows! Because if some fucking lamppost suddenly falls on the road, the ghouls will tear us apart!
And remember, I have kids!"

It was evening. We've driven past what used to be classy homes with broken windows and ghouls mindlessly walking here and there. Somewhere, we've seen campfires burning inside the buildings.

The surviving whites live in suburban neighbourhoods fortified with walls and electrified barb wire. In the morning, they quickly drive in their cars through relatively clear roads from the walls of their reservations to fortified and guarded workplaces in cleared-out buildings, park their cars in underground parkings and go to work. I've noticed that some of the surviving buildings have overpasses on the 10th-12th floors, so people can go from one building to another. You only need to avoid looking down, at the streets, where zombies wander around...

Wikipedia says that central parts of Johannesburg did fall into disrepair after the end of apartheid, but I'm not sure if the situation is this bad.

I was actually a bit confused over whether he was just racist or some sort of zombie survivor at the beginning. I'm going to say he's a STALKER and he lives in the zone just to protect my mind.
