Or, you know, captialism could get in on the act and sell ready grated cheese. Oh, wait, it has been doing that for years and you dont need the middle bit done manually at home any more? Oh joy!

That, my friend, is blasphemy. Freshly grated cheese is obviously superior to cheese grated in a factory and left to dry for amounts of time unknown until you actually purchased it. Please head to the torture chamber ultrafuntime room for compulsory repenting.
Well, of course it's superior. Sometimes however, convenience wins out.

This is why we buy bread in a bag, not grind our own corn and all that jazz.
Exactly.

Not really. Bread doesn't get too bad if left in a sealed bag for a few days.
Grated cheese? That... runs into problems.

... fridge? Fridge. Bag o'cheese lasts, uh. A while? When chilled.

Bag o'bread lasts longer when cold, too. Generally no need for that, though. Can eat loaf or two before it starts to mold fairly easily. Really have to crack down to eat bag of cheese before same.

The problem isn't with the shredded cheese keeping, but with it all merging into a singular blob or otherwise melting into itself.

Pasta. Pasta everywhere. Although, I gotta admit, that is one of the only places I use cheese in any quantity.

If it's doing that in your fridge, I think you need a new fridge :|

I badly need a new fridge, but I don't think that's the only issue. Maybe it's the pressure of it being clumped together in a relatively small container?

I never noticed it happening before, but I guess it's possible.

Mm... definitely even with the pre-shredded stuff, some kinds of cheese (I've never really bothered to track which, but... yeah) will clump together after a while and sometimes solidify a bit, especially if it's being let just sit. Even with a good fridge. It's fairly trivial to mostly prevent or greatly extend the period before it starts doing that just by giving the bag a good shake every day or so, though.

It's still way better to just grate blocks of cheese though.
It's not difficult, and pre-grated cheese is comparatively expensive.

Ehn. It's been annoying when I've tried it so far, and it does involve more maintenance/greater mess. The price differential irks, though, yeah.

I'm wtfing all over the place.

I agree with her sentiment, but trying to express it in only 30 seconds left her open to lots of misinterpretation.  "THEY'RE SAYING OUR CHILDREN BELONG TO THE STATE" is an incredibly reactionary example.

Essentially what she's saying has nothing to do with undermining parenting rights.  It's criticizing people who reject the notion of having any responsibility for other people's children.  One of the most pertinent examples is there are a surprising number of people today who believe education should receive tax funding.  The argument goes that not everyone who pays taxes has children, so their money is being spent on something that doesn't benefit them and that's wrong.  The counter is that you still have to live on the same planet as those children, so it's in your best interest for them to grow up to be competent and well-adjusted adults.  That's just one example that is heavily debated these days.  The fact is parents and their children need a lot of support.  Parents require more money and time away from work than non-parents to properly raise their kids, and kids need good schools and various other programs.  This stuff comes from the community, which is why people need to see children as everyone's responsibility and not just the parents.

Possibly irrelevant aside:

I hate it when people say kids "belong" to anyone. As if parents "own" them. Are they slaves?

I'd much prefer we used terms like "supervision" and "responsibility" when it comes to who takes care of kids.

For, in order that men should resist injustice, something more is necessary than that they should think injustice unpleasant. They must think injustice absurd; above all, they must think it startling. They must retain the violence of a virgin astonishment. When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

To some parents, yes, children are their slaves. Or potentially worse, their children are their second shot at life.
