Japan is weird.
As far as I can tell:

Kid came home. Kid was sad because girl didn't like him.
Dog tries to cheer kid up and be a good dog.
Kid fails to be cheered up.
Girl appears, Kid is happy to be with girl.
Dog is sad because Kid is happier with Girl than with Dog.
Dog eats a "Paanchi", which appears to be some sort of potato chip/fried thing.
Dog is made happy by amazing new Paanchi and no longer cares that Kid doesn't care about him.

So Japan is selling mind-control in Chip form now. It's only a matter of time before we all fall victim to the rise of Paanchi.
