“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

The internet used to be in Kansas, but it got moved via a series of tubes. You wouldn't happen to have a pair of ruby speakers, would you?

Still doesn't compete with Sparta, NC: Home of the Teapot Museum!


Had a dream this morning where my wife and I got into a massively escalating fight. Like, weapons beginning to be reached for kind of fight. As it approaches the violent denouement, my wife wakes me in RL and is all affectionate and wanting to cuddle for a minute. And big parts of my brain still hadn't switched over to waking consciousness and are all "ITS A TRAP! She's just manuevering for the best angle to stab you from!"

Took a good 5-10 minutes to wake up sufficiently that I wasn't in "fight-or-flight mode". Even now, 2 hours later, I'm still not quite right. I think I have a better understanding now of folks with PTSD.  :-\
