about 3-4 years, at the very least

I know this because I've looked at my home. There are a series of lawn reforms we undertook about that long ago, and they don't show anywhere.  Hence, 3-4 years.

They are quite nice. (In my own opinion.)

Ordinary-looking cabbage fields, except with a squadron's worth of decommissioned fighters stuck in the middle. Could be decoys.

edit: On second glance, could be a bombing range. There are some "crosses" on the ground just south of the fighter bodies. Must be a bit unnerving for the farmers living a couple stone throws away though.

Nonsense. Have you no faith in the skill of Dear Leader's glorious pilots?

I think my computer's possessed. I can hear the mouse click itself sometimes.

No, no. Those are just gremlins, you know, like the kind that tear of airplane wings and engines while they're flying.

Nothing to be concerned about.

Basically, we just need to write a master program that states that the computer cannot write its own programs and execute them, which is what real artificial intelligence would amount to. Above all, you can write unethical programs, but a computer can only execute programs exactly as they are written;
We should let it program itself. Just as long as it has the same kind of moral programming that humans have, that would make it not -want- to re-program itself for Evil.

I mean, if they made a pill that would make you want to commit wanton murder, would you take that pill? So why would an AI re-program itself for Evil if it had the capability but the same non-desire?

Evil doesn't have to be the "MUHAHAHAHA now you all DIE!" variety.
It can simply be the "I want to have X, and if people have to die so that I can have X, then so be it."

Usually (in fiction) it's more along the lines of an AI doing the calculations and coming to the conclusion that it is superior in ability to humans, and thus its own self-preservation trumps human concerns. And/or that it should be in charge. It's what happens when a computer has a fondness for Nietzche.

It really depends what the computer's goals are, if any. The rogue AI that takes over the world thing is quite unlikely. Whatever it "cares" about would have to be benefited by complete control.

When the pessimist looks at any infamy, it is to him, after all, only a repetition of the infamy of existence. But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Order. Predictability. Efficiency.

Humans are difficult variables to account for. By eliminating unpredictable variables, The Computer can achieve >99% accuracy in modeling.
Humans are inefficient and irrational. Optimal system efficiency can only be achieved by eliminating inefficiencies from the system.

Then don't program it to care too much about those things. It's an AI, not a science fiction trope. (Yes I realize what I just said.)

Program it to be... for lack of a better term, Friendly. Friendly AI.

Yeah, but if you don't design it to try and achieve accuracy and efficiency then what's the point? Might as well hire a bunch of pathetic fleshbags to do the job.

And then Descan realises his mistake as he remembers that "friendly" and "evil" are not mutually exclusive. But alas, it was too late, the robot overlords had already found and were about to execute him.
