So apparently Everquest the first (not EQ2) is both non-dead and soon-to-be F2P. Bit surprised we have a working 13-year-old mmo, honestly.

Even further back for online level grinding, there are several places you can play LORD (Legend Of the Red Dragon). Ancient BBS game where you fought monsters, dug up graveyards, and seduced wenches named Violet.

Asheron's Call is still going too. And they still charge $9.99 to download the client, and then $12.95 a month (you get a free month with the download). That is my WTF of the day. How do they actually get any new customers?

My network teacher insists that you can't ping google.com because windows firewall blocks the ping protocall.   Not on our end, on THEIR end it is blocked making it impossible to ping google, he told us to try it and indeed it did not work.   When I pointed out that the class computers all had google blocked and that's why it wasn't getting through, and that I ping google successfully during network troubleshooting just about every day at work he just told me that I am remembering wrong.

I just tried it here.  It worked.  This man has a PhD and is apperantly one of the highest paid teachers at the school.   WTF?  And this school has somehow become a full state college?
