Bah, four seniors in my high school built a fusion reactor for the science fair.

They met Obama because of it, too.

I didn't say you were lying, I commented on the fact that because you happen to know someone who did something harder, this guys accomplishment is suddenly less worth?

Besides it's hardly compareable, a guy doing it in his kitchen for his own money as a hobby is not the same as high school students working on a project. So it's only brought up as a "Ha! I can say something more significant, look at me!"

I never intended it to make it "worth" any less. I was just joking around.

He was making a fission reactor by the looks of it. A home made fusion reactor is pretty much safe; a fission reactor, though could be prone to radiation leaks and such. With a fusion reactor, the worst that happens is it stops working and the reaction instantly stops w/o any danger.

No, the worst that happens is some idiot cracks the thing open and sticks their hand in it before the reaction dies down.

Apparently, having a block party means that you can just meander through your neighbor's backyard, whether or not they're participating in said party, sit on their lawn furniture, and let your kids yell and scream in front of their windows, all at nine in the afternoon. I'm not really angry because it's not my house, it's my parents', it's just that I was kind of surprised when I heard small children right outside my window, and nobody I knew was outside with them.

I'd like to remind everyone that half of the time I don't even know what I'm talking about. The other half of the time I only sort of know what I'm talking about.

According to the guys that were working on it, there's a VERY slight chance that ALL of the fusion material could fuse together all at once releasing a whole bunch of energy.

But yeah, it's still safer than fission.
