I don't know how much sick time I have left, and I just came back from a 2-week vacation. Taking more time off probably doesn't look too good.

That such places even exist is my WTF.
There's a reason illness spreading throughout workplaces is one of the largest revenue drains in industry (which industry? Yes. Basically all of them.).

For reasons varied, it's just borderline bloody impossible to get through corpo brainrot that you really, really don't want sick folks coming to work. Costs modern economies billions and billions of dollars each year, when just... making sure people have and can take the time off to recover would cost, far, far less.

They changed the policy of how vacation and sick time is given out at work. Instead of being granted x number of days(well, it's measured in hours) at the start of the year, you have to earn the time off by coming to work. Initial allotment for next year is based on work time in the last three months of this year, and the accrual rate is determined by how long you've worked at the company. As an example, my own time off as a 9-year veteran who rarely misses work(though I've had some medical issues this year), came out to just under 24 hours each of sick and vacation time, or three days off. They also changed the personal leave policy: an employee can take up to 6 weeks(unpaid) leave for personal reasons, but your job isn't secured and they may hire a replacement. Medical leave is unchanged and protected(they can't replace you if you're on medical leave). This is company wide.

Apparently, somebody thought is was unfair that part-timers were getting the same amount of time off as full-timers... which makes no sense as part-timers shouldn't be getting that in the first place and that's easy enough to correct. Also, they were concerned that part-timers who were working fewer hours than other part-timers were getting the same benefits as the latter. So they decided to screw everybody.

Also just got back from the doctor. Definitely going to have some questions to raise with my GI specialist when I see him in a few weeks. Got a prescription that might help with my cough/massive phlegm clogs, and I also have to do a stool culture(it involves a cup).

I was under the impression that that's the point.

If only. Then again, maybe not.

I've also lost 25lbs since the last time I was weighed. As a result, none of my pants fit anymore. I did just finish putting a new hole in my belt, and now it seems to be holding up about as well as it did a few months ago.

Thought I've had since Starfield came out: I find the discourse around Bethesda games somewhat annoyingly predictable. Ever since Oblivion, the exact conversation I see online has always been "(New Bethesda game) isn't anywhere near as good as (previous Bethesda game)! It's too dumbed down and simplified. Of course, it's much easier to get into than (second to last Bethesda game), that one is pretty dated and could use a remaster." I expect that when another Bethesda game comes out, people will be talking about how much worse it is than Starfield at the end of its development cycle, with its DLC and mods.

I saw some gameplay of starfield and immediately thought:  Fallout 3 in space.

Maybe thats not entirely fair to them, but the dialogue is what killed me.  The plot is pretty dumpy too; all that hash about being part of the explorer's club and whatnot.

The gameplay seems like more of what they've already done, so if you like it then its good.  What's the innovation here?

And Fallout is just Skyrim in America....

And Skyrim is just Oblivion but in the North....

And Oblivion is just Morrowind in Tamriel....

And so on it goes. After playing their games for decades now, ya just get tired of the formula. What's always sold me on Bethesda games are the aesthetics and themes. I don't think the Elder Scrolls is an amazing world, but they sold it. Fallout may be derivative in style and tone from the older games, but it convincingly creates a wasteland with interesting things happening in it. And I'm sure some people feel that same way about Star Field. But I see a crushing and uninspired blandness to the whole thing. The beige of video game settings. Science fiction isn't my strongest suit but I like it when it's well done. I didn't even really like any of the Mass Effect games for the same reason, but they look leagues better in my eyes now looking at the setting and overall atmosphere of Star Field.

Fallout 3 was called "Oblivion with guns" constantly, rightfully so

Uh excuse me Morrowind IS in Tamriel! Thats the name of the continent. Youre probably thinking of Cyrodiil, but the dialogue in Oblivion mentioned either almost interchangeably because the Cyrodiils are imperialist bastardsso metropolitan

Also people saying this for every game doesn't make it wrong

It's been right for every game

Including Starfield

I just think with Starfield the limit to what people can accept has finally been reached. Maybe.

Starfield: good idea, lots of wasted potential in execution.
