Oy, fellow cheese head.
Huh, what does the Netherlands have to do with it?
WI is da US dairy state.
Cheesehead (dutch: kaaskop) is the term used here to denote people born in the provinces of north and south Holland, and sometimes even as a term to describe a dutch person in general.
Is there a reason for that? I always thought the Netherlands were famous for clogs, windmills and Protestants, rather than dairy farming.

Woke up, eventually looked at myself in the bathroom mirror, found much peeling skin on my forehead. Or it was skin from other parts of my head and neck that came off and ended up on my forehead from my usual tossing about while trying to sleep. Goddamnit psoriasis.

Twenty-eight hours without sleep and I'm feeling remarkably lucid. I look like the dead, but I feel better than expected.

Pretty sure sleep deprivation can eventually kill you, so pretty soon you won't just look like the dead.

Your body tends to switch itself off before then. You'd have to have some drugs in your system to keep that from happening I'd imagine.

What do you get if you put clogs, windmills, and Protestants together?

Answer: A whole lot of cheese.

But is it cow cheese though? I know there's a market for human dairy, but it's not terribly large.

And yeah, ed, sleep deprivation has killed but it takes drugs or some really rather unfortunate genetic conditions.

Gouda cheese is dutch. Cheese made in Gouda, city in the province of south-Holland.
Clogs, windmills and protestants were things we had 2 centuries ago.

To be more accurate, clogs were used by farmers to wade through muddy fields, until about 150 years ago, when rubber boots were invented.
For the past 150 years, clog's sole use has been the tourist industry.

Windmills were extensively used in medieval times until about 1850 to turn sea into land. Steam engines made those redundant, but windmills kept being used for milling flour well into the 20th century. Typical Dutch windmills are still a common tourist attraction in many villages though. We have the old Dutch landscape painters to thank for their popularity.

Protestants, I wouldn't know why you would think of those. We have protestants, sure. And catholics. Our country has made more impact on history with it's humanist thinkers though, notsomuch with reformist thinkers. Right now, the Netherlands is one of the lowest ranking countries (that has freedom of religion) on the list of % of population adhering a belief. Agnosts / atheists are a large majority here.

I've just discovered that an algorithm based almost literally on randomly dissecting data is competitive with random forests, which is one of the best currently existing classification algorithms outside of neural networks AFAIK.

So I've been trying to curb my misuse of the word 'ironically' by supplanting it with the word 'co-incidentally'.

But ironically, 'co-incidentally' isn't the right word either.
Please someone tell me we have an English word for when things deliberately coincide in a humorous fashion.

Just keep misusing either word. The only people who care will be pedants and English professors, who you can be assured are sadder creatures than you'll be.

I do believe that invoking Murphy's Law will suffice.

Or using 'deliberate'.  If its planned for humoureous effect then call it ironic.
If its done to upstage somebody call it brilliant and weaselly.

That's almost what juxtaposition means in writing and performance, but it has other facets of meaning that don't necessarily apply.

What is kind of interesting is that even though people use the word "Ironically" incorrectly the vast majority of the time...

The reason I don't harp on it is that the closest word to what they mean is "Poetic"... (Co-incidentally isn't the word you want. Poetic is)

And the modern usage of Ironic just sort of captures the idea... better.

You know... language evolves and all that.

Besides "irony" isn't all that high and mighty like some people push... Given that Puns and Sarcasm are both forms of Irony.

So yes :P the most Ironic show of all time would be Captain Planet.
