I know I know!

Slade.

Or SMR.

Contrary to popular belief, magma is actually a very nice building material.  Just add water, instant stone!

Magma = dehydrated stone. Just add water!

I hate brown. I'm also not a big fan of Orthoclase. Most other stones range from tolerable to deeply beloved (Bauxite, oh how I wish for infinite bauxite...)

Hear hear!

Edit: err -- is there anyway to delete a post? I didn't mean to post two separate times.

Anything grey. I build my forts to look like a crayon factory has just vomited over them.

OLIVINE, KIMBERLITE AND REALGAR EVERYWHERE!

To add to this:

COBALTITE, GARNIERITE AND ORTHOCLASE TOO!

MICROCLINE, BAUXITE, AND BRIMSTONE MUST NOT BE FORGOTTEN!!!!

BRIMSTONE IS FORGETTABLE AS IT IS THE SAME COLOR AS THE MIGHTY ORTHOCLASE.

CAPS LOCK IS FUN.
WHY IS THERE NO CINNABAR IN YOUR LIST?!!!

Anyway, I also like to only make my bins, beds and barrels out of subterranean trees or rose gold or black bronze or bismuth bronze or or or...

These colour explosions are awesome.
WHY DOES IT FALL TO ME TO MENTION PITCHBLENDE?!

Urist McMayor has been unwell unhappy lately. He was forced to sleep on a Pitchblende bed.

I forgot pitchblende. Rutile is almost identical to it and is more common.

Also, I hate the combination of bright yellow and dark red.

Sometimes when I see the material symbols on the screen my brain will auto-adjust the colors to something more realistic when rendering the 3D image in my mind's eye.  This causes my brain to derail pretty hard when doing anything with alunite.  Google images displays the majority of pictures as a yellow-orange to nice orange.  However I can just imagine how horrible the brilliant splashes of orange would be contrasted with the red of hematite, brown of copper, and black of obsidian/basalt unless you particularly like that mix [which I might].

Microcline however... gets a little forgiveness for me.  Despite its migraine inducing bright cyan appearance in game, google images tells a different story about how the stone can vary from a bland white to a similarly annoying cyan to more appealing shades of light blue, sky blue, or even a sea colored greenish/blue.  As this appears to be a rather rare color in DF, I can imagine some very nice elegant structures with microcline [realistically colored with a darker sky blue with a bit of green] highlights.

For me, its the one I want to use, but can't find.  I hate it when the stone type I wish for something either isn't there, or is not in sufficient quantity for what I want to use it.

Oh, and microcline is just orthoclase that hasn't cooked long enough yet. ;D

My forts don't normally last too long.  The last major building stone I used though will probably be my least favorite.  Mica.  For some reason, the idea of mica blocks just irks me.  I know it's really smooth and probably looks nice(I also remember learning something about mica being used as glass for ovens) but it always makes me think of these homes where the stone wall is just peeling away.  Incidentally, that same fortress had diorite, which I think was the same color, and which I actually really like building with because I think the pictures of it on wikipedia look better.  My masons didn't make as many diorite blocks though.

Oh, in one of the fortresses I was happier with, I made about half of my houses out of gypsum blocks.  I like to think my buildings were using plaster walls, even if I didn't make plaster first.  Is it possible to actually make walls from plaster?

so far in my fort, any stone that isnt limestone has been dumped into the atom smasher (except forasmall amount of bauxite that was dumped in a hole then sealed away)

having everything white with a value multiplier is fun!

-i am also showing exceptional hate for microline andolvine and all those happy colors!-

wait, why arent there purple rocks in abundance? I WANT PURPLE

The hardest colors to get are the greens, followed by the blues.

Ricky, you want pitchblend.

And I haven't had any trouble finding green.  Nothing like a solid olivine dinning room, equipped with olivine tables and chairs (legendary at 6x10 with all the walls unsmoothed).

I take back what I said about the greens -- dark green anyway -- as I forgot about green glass.

However...

Light Green -- Garnierite *only*

Dark Blue -- Nethercap(?) + Kimberlite only

Light Blue -- Cobaltite only

Yeah, but you can get black bronze / rose gold for dark / light purple respectively. Not to mention glumprongs and tunnel tubes.
