What's your least favourite building material? I hate carving bedrooms out of sand, could you imagine having to sleep somewhere like that!?

Sands in the sheets, sands in my beard. Ugh.

Also Microcline floors are a bit tacky, in my opinion - a poor man's adamantine.

well, after looking up microline in the wiki it does seem to have a nice blue/green appearance that I suppose could look nice if polished and such... but as portrayed in the game I don't like cyan very much.

Also, after seeing some of these artifacts going around, dwarves have no concept of "tacky".

I am thinking about this... I can find use for just about any stone applied properly and tastefully.  But I tend to shy away from stuff like soap, tin, and zinc.  Yes they aren't quite stones but... a "block" and two metals.

I have started using reveal in a fort so that I can carve rooms out of just one oval of colour. I carefully do it so that the walls are of that material also. Sometimes I leave a gem clusters or a colourful vein in (oh er missus) and polish it up (Fnar) which looks great with my tileset.

I will refuse to dig out sections of wall in the dwarves living quarters.  So what if i somehow hit a cotton candy stand, some lucky dwarf will just get cotton candy walls.  I dont mind building with any material, but certain materials should not mix.  ie cobaltite and microcline.  That will burn your eyes to look at.

I completely dig out my bedroom areas and build new walls and pave them over with all the same thing.  If an area happens to already be what I want to make it, I'll just smooth the floors but still dig it out - it's really good XP for miners.
