What's to stop them from just not showing up to testing, and selling their services illegally?  I'm sure some people would just keep going to legal prostitutes, but with the taxes I imagine the gross illegal ones will be cheaper.  I don't see how making it legal and taxed would really change anything that much.
The way I see it anyone stupid enough to risk sleeping with an untested illigal hooker when there is a tested legal one just becouse it's cheaper if a moron and deserves what they get, who knows it may help weed out the idiots by makeing it so noone will have sex with them.

Legalising the number one cause of slavery in the modern world. Yeah, that's fucking great. (Pun totally intended)

Yeah, I guess I'm generally in favour of this? People are going to do it, legal or not, and at least this way it can be regulated. It's been working pretty well for the Netherlands, as I understand it. All we need now is to legalize magic mushrooms and we'll be like Netherlands 2.0.

Well, I could probably buy cheese illegally for less than I can buy it in shops (dodging the 15% VAT).  Do I?
Only if you're not a chump. Who can afford those cheese premiums in this day and age?

Case in point: Nobody buys black market cigarettes anymore, or stolen appliances.  Oh wait, they do.  Also, bad examples.

All the same, I don't see where this is going create any problem that didn't already exist, so hey why not.

I thought the number one causes of slavery in the modern world was pedophiles and sweatshops.

I'm pretty sure the goal in legalizing it is to drive it out of the underground via good ol' economics. Naturally, sex slavery is still highly illegal.
I agree its a gross business and I'd prefer it not have to exist, but if its going to--and it is--might as well make the best of it we can.

Also, most slavery isn't sexual, its forced labor. In the west its usually agricultural labor. So I don't think sex slavery is much a factor in this particular debate.

From your answer, I draw the conclusion that you think legalising prostitution will stop people from forcing women have sex? Your wrong.

Personally, I think prostitution should be allowed. In a perfect world, where one could be certain the prostitute is selling her body of her own free will. Legalising prostitution in today's world, even if confined to whore-houses, will not ensure that basic requirement.

If you regulated the Whore houses, you would really cut down on people being forced into prostitution.

You do make a valid point, but if it's legal and regulated then we can work to combat that.

People do, but not as many as there would be if cigarettes or appliances were illegal...

And sex trafficking is probably the largest source of slavery in the western world.  Hopefully, though, this'd help combat this.  I guess you could have a sortof licensing system?

Except that it totally does exist, which is a big deal.  Human trafficking and all that.  Like most prohibited economics, for instance booze, making the sale and trade legal does tend to drive out the illegal industry side of the issue.  Not always though, there's genuine sweatshops inside America, and plenty of accusations of drug-hooking pimp type stuff in the porn industry.

Also, Renault, posts dude.

No. There would be no other way of knowing whether or not people where being forced into it than having them fill out a form saying "I do this of my own free will". There would be no way of knowing whether they were lying or not.

We can, and do, with it illegal as well.
