You can have steam-powered minecarts push regular minecarts.

You need two steam engines to go up a x=y track. Boosters are the way to go.

Day 22

Dear diary;

I needed more iron for my minecart track, so I went down mining today.

I started digging yet another tunnel, like normal.

A bit of redstone was found.

And magma. That darn magma. I couldn't be bothered trying to find it's chamber.

I avoided it quite easily, though.

And guess what? I dug into one of my old tunnels.

I solved it by putting up some stone to function as a bridge, and dug a bit down so I could get through below it.

Eventually I found some sweet, sweet iron.

And a few diamonds.

And magma, yet again.

I accidentally lost some of my iron in it while I was blocking it off. I swore to myself and decided it wasn't worth trying to recover. It had probably melted down by now anyway.

Later I found more redstone, and even more iron. My mood lightened a bit.

But I lost one of the veins to a magma "trap". Stupid magma, always getting in my way. If only magma could be used for something.

Luckily I found another vein. I had just about enough to finish my mine cart track.

Oh, and I found some more coal, too. Fuel ahoy!

I made myself a shortcut out when I dug into my own tunnel again. I had gone in a circle. Neat.

I climbed up from the mines, and into the moonlight. This is the first time in a while I've finished my work before a new day has started.

I continued up the tower, and started smelting the ore.

I made the last track parts I'm (hopefully) going to need.

The sun was rising, so I decided to call it a day and write this entry.
Now I'm going to finish my roller coaster ride. I can't wait to ride it all the way down. I think I'm going to use my tower room as the start of the track, it's not like I need it for anything else.

See you later.

OOC: I actually found today's update a bit boring. Oh well. Tomorrow is minecart day :D

Posting for awesomeness. Isn't powered minecart minecart + furnace?

As it turns out, the pen was in fact a poor choice for melee combat in comparison to the sword.
So I just started playing this game and I accidentally nuked the moon.

Day 23

Dear diary;

Today I was going to finish my minecart track.

...after I had updated the calendar, of course.

I was getting pretty high up. I'm so glad I don't have a scare of heights, or else I'd wobble and fall down. And die. And get back to life again. And climb up again. And fall. Again.

Anyway. I was starting to get pretty close to the top.

I dug into the room wall, and lead the track into there.

The stone floor I had put up actually worked pretty well for stopping the cart.
Now my track was finished. It was time to test it.

However, I didn't get time to jump into the cart. It went off without me.

I had to climb all the way down to retrieve it. I had to be more careful, or I wouldn't get anywhere.

I climbed back up again and retried. This time I was going to get my fantastic ride.

It went so fast, I thought it was going to fly of the tracks! It would have been better than any rollercoaster ever, hadn't it been for how bumpy the ride was.

It left me with a few bruises, but I didn't care too much about that. Did I mention I went "WHOOOOO!" while speeding down the tracks?

I wasn't too sure what I was to do after I had finished the track. I didn't feel like going back into the mines, so I went ahead and started improving the track.

First I remade the end platform with stone. I also put up another torch to light it up.

I climbed up the tower to access my workbench, and when I was at the top, I tripped and fell head-first into the chest. I got knocked out for a few minutes or so. The memory's actually a bit fussy, but the headache I woke up with afterwards and the bump in my forehead made it obvious enough.

After laying down and letting the headache settle, I made the stairs I had come up for.

And this time, I was using my new cart track again. It goes so much faster than climbing.

Of course, it leaves me with bruises everytime. Maybe I should make some pillows to put into it. I could sew it out of wool. But that'll be for another time.
So anyway, I put some stairs up to the track platform. I was pretty much finished; the only thing I was missing was a way to go UP the track.

I COULD try to experiment with that steam power idea, but I don't(didn't?) have any iron to work with. I'll have to delve down into the mines again.

I climbed up the tower again, and started writing today's entry. The sun is rising. You know, up here in the clouds, that moment when the sun rises up in the horizon doesn't look too good. It looks grey and dull. Though I guess that's because it only lights up my grey stone tower. Hrm.
Now, I'm off to the mines. Gonna get that iron I need for the experiments. Maybe even get enough to extend the cart track into the ground... that sounds really useful.

See you later.

OOC: The cart track is finished! I'm going to make 3 powered minecarts, because I view boosters as a glitch, and it wouldn't tie in well with the story. Besides, boosters don't go "CHOO CHOO".

I agree. Powered minecarts are the way to go.
