So I have this idea for a megaproject. But to do it, I need ~20 layers of uninterrupted stone (i.e. without caverns). How could I generate a world like this?

In custom generated world parameters, there's probably a way to have caverns with x separation.

There are worldgen options for the number of levels between each cavern layer. Also try embarking closer to mountains or oceans, as well as areas with steep cliffs.

or go with a larger World, I have something like 75 levels between the surface and the first cavern. Or was it 75 from my deep mining area to the cavern.... I forget.

Could you hypothetically mod in stone layers that aren't actually stone?  Or replace the information on, say, mudstone after the game has already started with that of peat?

...it would probably cause more strangeness, though.

(For the first question, increase Z levels before first cave layer when you gen the world)

You could turn the upper stone layers in your embark to soil with the [SOIL] tag and the reveal DFhack utility.

I was hoping for a legitimate (non cheaty method)...oh well.  at least my kobolds now have an encircled base.  time to complete the walls, roof, and trapped corridor for siege entrances ( )

You could also do it the dwarfy way and start your project normally. Upon hitting a cavern, wall off whatever you need to and install floors as necessary, roofing off the walled area. Good usage of walls/floors will give you exactly the same effect as if you had the 20 layers of uninterrupted stone... but if you do things this way, you might need to clear out some draltha/misc. cave monsters first, since you're paving into their home

And if you  need 20 layers of uninterrupted stone for the actual stone to dig out... then I want to know what the fuck megaproject you're making that needs 20 z-levels of one embark tiles' worth of stone.
