This,Good sir is madness
« on: September 12, 2010, 12:18:33 pm »

I have killed enough monsters from caves to get atleast 2 pages of units filled with deceased
How do I remove them from it?
the unit menu is rather helpful and I would like it to be neat and clean
On the other completely unrelated note
If some goblin triggers my weapon trap, will the weapon(large serated disk in this case) would automatically go away and I would have to make them again or it is just a matter of time that dwarf will magically take a disk out of his pocket and replace it?

This is a important thing for me too. Due to the amount of Dwarves (69 atm) and the amount of kills (120) It takes me FOREVER to get to dwarfs #60-70. If the kill list can be cleaned up or moved in anyway I can just scroll up and wrap around.

Any known work arounds? (Could do with a seperate Kill Tab really.)

Use the page up/page down keys,
with these you can scroll pagewise ;)

i dont think you understand how weapon traps work. they swing(or spin or stab) their weapon at the enemy walking on them but the weapon stays in the trap

THIS! IS! DWARF FORTRESS!

Also, weapon traps keep on doing their thing until they jam up (clogged with body parts and gore), at which point a dwarf has to unjam it.

Ever seen Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade?
"The penitent man will kneel... the penitent man will *click* WHOA!"
Yeah, that's weapon traps in action.  Floor/ceiling/wall/whatever erupts with ten serrated discs [or whatnot] that slice out and massacre the poor fool who triggered it.  If they don't drag part or all of the body with them and jam, they immediately reset to be used again.  It's only ranged weapons - bows, crossbows, and blowguns - that are more like bolt/arrow/dart launchers and need reloading.

Yep...
put 4-6 rows of half filled weapon traps between your fort entrance and the outside,
maybe together with 4 rows of retractble spikes and you can massacre 100s of goblins.

And even if maybe a troll manages to get through, he will be too cripled to put up much of a fight against your military ;)

(that is, if you choose the right material for the eapons in your traps...while what I said is true for traps with weapons made out of steel/bronze, donīt expect it to work as well, if all your weapons are made out of wood or glass :D )

Or fill all your traps with wooden training weapons so that you'll be facing legendary goblins by the time they make it through.

Foolprooof way to penetrate aquifers of unlimited depth.  (Make sure to import at least 10 stones for mechanisms)
Toughen Dwarves by dropping stuff on them.  (Nothing too heavy though, and make sure to wear armor.)

You may want to download Runesmith(Modding Section) and use the instructions to remove units from the menu.
Be careful not to remove your dwarves!

Should glass discs be rather sharp?
Think shards, only on purpose. So they dont break as easily.

We've gone over this a dozen times
glass traps are about as effective as skin would be
