Though I still wonder if they're going to remake the third gen. And also whether they will continue this cycle of remaking and making another hundred 'mons. They have over half a thousand different Pokemon right now.

Who even needs to train your mons? You roll up with the power 6 and they drop brix. Charizard, Gyrados, Arcanine, Rhydon, Dragonite, and Machamp are an unbeatable amount of brute force and shoop da woop.

You can easily counter that entire team with an Abomasnow and a Walrein. 

I'm looking through my Pokedex in Gold and just can't seem to find those two. It sure is a shame they just stopped making Pokemon games after Gold.

It's still a very easily countered team. A good Water STAB can take care of Arcanine, Rhydon, and Charizard. An Electric STAB would take care of Gyarados (and Charizard if the Water didn't get him). A Dragon or Ice STAB takes care of Dragonite. A Flying or Psychic STAB takes care of Machamp. That's a total of 4 Pokemon needed at most to counter your "power 6"! Hardly "unbeatable" like you claimed.

I meant most can be safely ignored because they're not very interesting/cool, but that's sort of the opposite of an excuse to make more.

Such as? I personally find all (that come to memory) of the original 150 to be cool. After that, things become more derivative, but they're still each pretty groovy.

Aye, I like most of the Pokemon from Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn. Most of Sinnoh is okay, but I really haven't seen much from Unova yet.

I found Sinnoh to be a step up from Hoenn in terms of design, for the most part. Unova looks iffy and definitely has some irredeemably bad ones.

I, personally, put Sinnoh and Hoenn as equal in terms of design.
Of the first four, my least favourite is definitely Johto.
And yes, while Unova has some pretty bad ones, there are others I quite like.

1st gen gets an automatic top favorite for being the first. My order of favorite gens (excluding 5th, as I am still waiting on BW to be released in North America) is:
1st Gen (Kanto)
4th Gen (Johto remakes/Sinnoh)
2nd Gen (Johto)
3rd Gen (Hoenn)

I like the appearance of at least half of Gen V's Pokemon. I really like the ghost candle line ein linked to. I still despise the Goth* line. I don't like how several Pokemon that look like they should be an evolution for an existing Pokemon are standalones (such as Alomomola (looks like Luvdisc) and Baffuron (looks like Tauros)). I find it interesting how many of the evolutions of the Gen V Pokemon require more leveling than Gen 1-4 Pokemon.

I originally disliked Zuruzukin for looking too obviously like the artist wanted him to be a goofy Pokemon gangster. But then I read the Fridge Brilliance article for Pokemon on TVTropes and now I like it. Relevant entry:

Zuruggu and its evolution Zuruzukin are two lizards dressed in a punk-style getup (the latter sporting an additional mohawk and hoodie), and its type is fittingly Dark/Fighting. When I saw that it was weak to Fighting, one of its own types, I came up with an idea. Other Fighting types like Machoke and Hitmonlee are based on martial artists with training and some combat strategy, while Zuruzukin represents an untrained thug. Normally, a trained fighter has an advantage in a fight over someone with no training. Even if two Zuruzukin fight, it'll be like two gang rivals dueling, since both will use Fighting type moves and go down quickly.

Hoenn was the first I played, so maybe I'm biased. My top Pokemon from all regions is something like this.

5. Xatu
6. Relicanth
7. Absol
8. Tangrowth
9. Walrein
10. Regirock

So... yeah. That's a lot of Pokemon from Hoenn.

Personally, I like the 'crappy' ones like Rattata, Pidgey, Poochyena, Wingull, Caterpie, etc. Because they feel like pets you could own. I like the strong ones too, but feel that since they're overused, it drains the awesome out of them somewhat. I mean, Charizard is a giant fire breathing lizard. Awesome, yes? Correct. Less awesome when everyone and their second cousin's flatmate has one. For that reason Venusaur (and to a lesser extent, Blastoise) ftw!

Huh? Entei, Raikou, Suicine, Mewtwo, Zapdos, Moltres, Arcticuno, Ho-Oh, Lugia, Kyogre, Groudon, etc... There's only one of those per game. Unless you meant something else?
