Armstrong takes this one easy. As tough as Kirby is he's still a pink puffball. If he can survive a few attacks, Armstrong can too. And that's all the time it would take for a combat veteran (though an unwilling one) like Major Armstrong to figure out the obvious pattern to his attacks, dodge of block them, and then take his sweet time finding the perfect counter to kill him.

If it's a real black hole, then Marx and pretty much the entire island get sucked in too. Game over.

If it's just a fancy name for an absorbing ability, then Armstrong attacks from the other side.

So Marx has a very powerful magical shield that must be summoned, large claws that can scratch, can cause dangerous plants to sprout from the ground, shoot giant projectiles, shoot swarms of arrows, bombard an entire area with giant paint-balls, turn into an immaterial shadow, and fly?

Armstrong has been shown to create/dissipate massive walls designed to hold in an entire village's worth of people. Granted, he has performance-enhancing equipment on his side, but if we're not giving him that (and I'm not quite sure why we wouldn't) he would still have a god half of that kind of power, I would think.

As far as mitigating Marx's attacks, if he knows what it's made of than he can turn it into something harmless.

I don't know who Marx Soul is, so I'll just say what I know of Armstrong.

Armstrong is a really tall, strong guy, but he has enough agility to dodge one of the other really fast characters.  He can use his alchemy to shoot high speed projectiles or to make the ground erupt in a fury of spikes.  Otherwise he's probably going to be punching his foes.

He's demonstrated to be one of the most skilled fighters in FMA - he goes toe-to-toe with some of the series' most deadly characters and comes out alive (win or lose). He doesn't just fight powerfully, he fights intelligently and plays to make the most of the appropriate strengths/weaknesses in fights.

That and Armstrong has a really good mind game going as he fights. There was one guy as strong as he was with a huge hammer swinging at him. Instead of dodging it, Armstrong actually punched it. Not only did he hit it with enough force to stop the hammer in its tracks, he turned the hammer head into a statue of himself.
