Infuriating Computer problem
« on: September 01, 2010, 02:45:56 pm »

Spoiler: Original first post. (click to show/hide)

Hello! After recently reformatting my computer, I've began to encounter some problems starting some programs.

Off the top of my head, the programs affected are..
Avira
Winamp
MANY games, Dwarf Fortress included.
And many new downloads.

Basically, any time I attempt to open these programs I get this error..

I can now confirm it's not Malware.
It's not a virus.

But every time I even try to open some programs this happens.

The application failed to initialize propely (0xc0150004). Click OK to terminate the application.

It's always the same problem.
So, what can I do?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Smells like a virus to me... But I could be wrong. Post a HJT log?

Also: Try herez, herez and herez.

Nothing jumps out at me from your HJT logs, other than you have a lot of dupe processes running and some programs which I don't know what they are.

And you leave the EADM running? Ew.

What am I doing wrong?
I've just formatted the computer. And I've got so much housework to do and.. I  just don't have time to fix this stuff.

Well I always go to "Run" type in "MSconfig" go to "Startup" and uncheck any programs or services I don't want to start when Windows launches. The EA Download Manager is one of those.

I take it you're using the most recent version (5.57) of Win Amp? Did you install any plug-ins, or is it just the default version.

I don't really know what to tell you with those general memory faults. You said you did everything, so I assume that's uninstalling and reinstalling it?

I'm pretty sure I'm not hallucinating, you had EADM in that HJT before you edited.

could be a hardware problem.

or a driver problem, which could have multiple sources.

have you tried reinstalling those programs?

sounds like defender/avira rules conflict.

upd: oh, I do not understand, you are trying to use avira and AVG, TOGETHER here?
even, if one of them is not active, their services(despite of NO GUI launched) may collide with each other.
plug off net, uninstal both, check winamp. if still error is present, uninstall winamp, erase its folder, reinstall winamp(with NO antivirs), launch it. if it works, you know what to do next.
(hint - comodo).

you may want to check bios settings too, if something is wrong there(especially, if battery's out, you mmay lose proper fsb/devices settings). It's possible that memory throttling functions are set wrong(it's wide area strictly related to mobo/mem you are using....).

both antivirs you mentioned are so weak, that i wouldn't be so sure, if you have no virus there, but now, i doubt it.

other ideas: check, if your memory sticks are properly placed and win is showing proper mem amount. check, if every cooler is working fine(sound chip related crashes are sometimes linked to southbridge overheating issue, i.e.). check device management, if you are having any "!"'s there.
if you installed drivers from CD's, go and update 'em.
i assume you are using regular windows, not custom build, nor scratched cd's/dvd's.

another one: if you have pci sound card, and mainboard cards enabled together, this may be reason.

another hint: check voltages in bios. maybe your power supply's has problem.

..and another - no "ownership" of processes you are launching(f'ed up defender behaviour :E).

sometimes it is worth to make it properly..again.

First of all - check avira and AVG idea. There's no method for having more, than one antivir working at same time without more or less serious probs.
and by looking at HJT log it is clear for me, that may be it.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AVG9_TRAY] C:\PROGRA~1\AVG\AVG9\avgtray.exe

I'm sorry, thanks for the help but I know it's not that.
I've uninstalled Avira now, I wouldn't think of having two anti virus programmes on my PC.

But Avira stopped working because of this error, which made me get AVG.

Anyway, I still haven't fixed this problem, luckily it only applies to Avira and Winamp, so far. Which are both uninsulated now.
Thanks everyone for the help.
