Guys, with the introduction of Horse Lords, I just had a great idea for a mod.

Dragon Age in CK2 form.

With the Horse Lords, we now have the ability to simulate the roaming Dalish. The last piece is in place.

Do it. DO it NOW.

Ah yes, the insatiable lust of corn and rice, clearly two of the most erotic foods.

There is already a thread for it in the paradox forums. No idea on the progress, though.

Recentlly my onlly son wanted to be a monk... So my Nephew inherits my house in the merchant republic of Erie. Which is sad cause my son was looking like a really good heir.
o and I think the current prince mayor is a leprecon.

King Karl Karling has, for the first time ever in my games, formed the HRE. 16 years early, and it encompasses France and Italy as opposed to the central Germanic region, but still.
Wow, the Western Roman Empire actually lives! The Holy Roman Empire really IS Roman!

Oh dear god, this game is fun. I'd played a bit of EUIV before this, but didn't really have the skill to get into it; by the time I started really playing this, I'd started to get the hang of it.
I'm playing a vanilla CK2 Eire run right now-- my third run of the game, since I ragequit the first two after accidentally releasing some of my land by giving titles that were of equal rank to mine.

Thankfully, I got smart the third time around, and created the Kingdom of Eire around 1170, united Ireland under Eire around 1220, and just now conquered Wales and created the kingdom of Bhreatain Beagh (which is now part of Eire) around 1270.

At one point, before I united Ireland, I had four separate revolts going on in my territory (the duchies of Munster, Leinster, and Meath), and was only saved by the fact that the four revolts weren't allied at all and kept knocking each others' armies out. I actually had a revolt leader killed in battle against another revolt.

Also notably, unlike history, the Catholics have been kicking the daylights out of the Muslims. Every single crusade (except for one questionably-made crusade on India) has succeeded wonderfully, with Jerusalem established and brought back to its original size every 40 years or so, and the Holy Roman Empire has conquered the entire southern half of Spain (and held it against multiple Jihads).

I haven't participated in any of that, it's all AI.

Uhh... isn't Munster, Leinster and Meath basically all of Ireland? Were you just giving away land willy nilly?

Under the reign of Basileus Gabriel the second, the grandson of Saint Gabriel, mender of the great schism and father of the antichrist, a man so virtuous that Lucifer himself sought to undo his works, the Byzantine Empire has gone from strength to strength. It's borders expanded, numerous heathen nations brought to heel and the kingdoms of Italy and the Duchy of Croatia crushed beneath the might of Rome's heirs.

The Basileus himself rarely took to the field, preferring to spend his time studying scripture, negotiating trade deals, hunting or researching the stars above. He ultimately passed away from smallpox aged 75, leaving his 32 year old son to take up the throne of the Empire and finish the family work of reestablishing the Roman Empire. A single Duchy stands between him and the title and his chancellor is hard at work laying the groundwork of a claim to the land.

But despite, or perhaps because of, the glory of his forebears, the nobles of the land are divided in their support for Basileus Gabriel the third. Factions long since forgotten under the beloved rule of his father and great-grandfather surge to the fore to test the mettle of the new ruler. Many can look past his deformed and hunched appearance and see his kind and pious spirit, but others are vain and arrogant, belittling their new lord's looks and undermining his authority.

Trying times await the new ruler, but for now he is determined to enjoy his coronation, throwing fairs and feasts, hosting tournaments and going to Antioch to walk in the steps of the Apostles. Quelling the doubts and rebellious thoughts of his vassals can wait, for now is a time to celebrate his father's memory and the promise of the future.

I'm constantly amazed by how big a difference the long reign relationship boost makes to my Emperors relationships with their vassals, the former Basileus (the son of the antichrist) was beloved by all but one of his vassals, and that was because he'd conquered them after usurping their ducal title, fully half my dukes hate the new emperor, the other half adore him. Still, pilgrimages, parties and maybe a bit of rebel smashing should see things fall in line shortly and let me get back to establishing my hold on the Duchy of Ferrara.  :D

I had formed the proper Kingdom of Eire at this point, so having duchies didn't release them.
I just hadn't taken Connachta and Ulster yet.

So anyone else think Paradox should just embrace the more Alt-history stuff? I mean they already sorta did with Sunset Invasion, but the game still doesn't let you do cool things like having female preference succession (without mods)

I'm in the camp of people who think CK2 should embrace the crazy instead of struggling fruitlessly against it.

I wouldn't be opposed to them adopting Better Gender Laws.  It punishes you pretty harshly for being ahistorically progressive, or going full feminazi, but the option is there.

I know a lot of people will vocally disagree, but I love the various supernatural events and traits. Bring in more supernatural stuff! All the stuff!

Have it optional like SI, of course, but being able to, say, curse your rivals and have your children kidnapped by fae would fit the nature of the game quite well. And would make the Learning stat more desirable for a change. There are so many myths and legends you could play with that certainly hadn't been forgotten in the period, even in Christian realms.

I'm fine with supernatural things so long as they're ambiguously supernatural like most of what we have now. Lots of misinterpretation, back legends, etc that could all just be the embellished stories of a famous dynasty. After all, there are communities today where people die from "curses", which is entirely due to exaggerated placebo effect or actual indirect murder.

Sunset Invasion and other althist is just fine by me though, I never understood the shitstorm.

You could just turn off SI in the menu or not buy it, so the complaints against it really were stupid.

I believe they were of the "Paradox is wasting their time making kid's stories when they should be improving CKII pls nerf Abbisids Johan".

And thus it was that the Casuals ruined Crusader Kings, and Charlemagne was released.
