Santa Anna is an awful general in game. I think the problem with Mexico being so strong is that the ratio of soldier POP:Soldier casualties is 10:1, meaning both sides can keep throwing troops into the fray. As a tip for beating Mexico, find a Texan army led by Sam Houston and when it engages in battle join in with your troops. Houston is a pretty good general and with your numbers you should rout the Mexicans.

From what I've read it seems that the game has the same "Thing just happen randomly" problem that HoI3 had. Glad I didn't preorder, would like to be proved wrong though.

I got it and liked it, anyway. EU3 was far much easier to learn, though.

I'm definitely enjoying it. With some nice tweaking to militancy gains due to lack of life needs and such to prevent rebels from taking over the AI unrealistically I haven't been experiencing most of the problems that I hear people are.
Also, being in debt isn't too bad, so long as you're taking out loans from your own national bank (thus the interest that you pay goes to your people, which they invest in industry/allow you to take out more loans/etc.) Having a slight deficit is perfectly manageable, though if you're hemorrhaging money then you should try to find out what's causing it. There are some areas that are lacking diplomatically, like being unable to declare war on someone within your own SoI or remove them or annex them peacefully.

Hemorrhaging? more like every major artery bursting. Loosing more than 50% of the tax income in one month after starting to play and no way to figure out why.
Tried as Sweden & Brittain. As swede i raised the taxes to 50-70% and tried varying it to get any results, and most of the time the plebs were either 100% lux needs or i had a piece no need.
Playing Brit i left the taxes at 50% but that didn't help either.

It makes me sad I couldn't even play the demo. I checked the forums for people with similar problems, and it appears it's a graphic card problem.

So no Vicky2 for me until I get a new card.

Damn, that sounds insane. Did you max any of your sliders or what? I hear if you max your admin/education sliders early everyone decides to promote or something. It should be easy to make money as Sweden, at least I've heard it is. Perhaps you should just take some loans from your bank and sit it out for a couple months to see if your economy gets back on track?
I haven't been having such problems at all, though I'm still on my first game and like Vicky 1 I've been pretty... lenient with pulling cash out of the ground.

Raise tariffs. This should convince your population to buy goods from state markets rather than international markets. Secondly, use national focus to encourage capitalists. Put taxes on the rich down to zero if possible, with taxes on the poor giving you the lions share of your revenue. Finally, the reason you're losing money is probably because you have a interventionist or state capitalist party in power, in which case you're subsidizing factories which aren't turning a profit due to being unable to get their inputs cheaply. Either trade for the inputs and allow the factories and pops to buy from the state stockpile, or stop subsidizing the factories.

btw I live.

It's actually possible to have a good State Capitalist economy going in Vicky 2, just get rid of crappy factories in favor of profitable factories where possible.

I give up.
Tried sweden again and i just can't figure out the reason why the tax income just drops.
Did what Amp said and raised tariffs, adjusted taxes and sweden dont have any factories. It didn't help.

Your taxes dropped because your population isn't making any money. Short term debt can be repayed, however, so don't fret over it. Instead, either encourage capitalists, or appoint a party that will allow you to build factories yourself. As soon as you have a functioning economy, you can get the game moving.

At the moment the game is somewhat broken. The new 1.2 patch should fix a lot of those issues. Because right now, craftsmen require about 100x the goods to function than farmers/laborers do (however that works), and the same thing for capitalists:aristocrats. There are modded pop files you can download on the forums to fix some of these issues, but they're not real fixes. The capitalist AI is horrible at recognizing what is profitable or not, and that too should be fixed in 1.2, at least slightly.

Yeah, I also recommend waiting for the next patch. Some comparatively minor bugs seem to combine into absolute monstrosity, turning the world into a poverty-ridden hellhole torn by constant rebellions.
