I suggest you don't think too much what you build and where. When ever you need something, build it as close as possible to where you need it. that way your fortress will eventually become epic
Because god knows your duke will demand a kitten silo in his office.

Huh, which square room? Also, yah, most of that was flavour, sadly. I never actually got around to executing most of them, the tower was never completed. :( Also, I installed a bunch of levers, I forget which does what. I know one raises a bridge. And the one on the second story of the execution chamber triggers a bunch of spikes at the bottom of the hole. I so want to see a screenie with a bunch of goblin prisoners being splatted down there.

EDIT: Actually, some of flavor text happened in the fortress. The metalcrafter, Lor, is already sentenced to 101 days in prison. I just decided to make him the assassin because he was the only one capable of getting arrested at said time.

BlackRogue's Journal:

Well the insane design of this place has claimed it's first victim. Sadly it's our "fearless" leader. The elf brained fool has gotten all paranoid. Me being the chief doc in the place there's only one thing to do. Well a couple of things. Had a quiet chat with our esteemed military and told 'em the best thing to do was play along for now. After that I went up to ol' EG and told 'em I used to be a torturer in the old mountainhome  and would be glad to use my expertise in his name. Needless to say it went over like a mug of elven sunshine. A quick chat with any "victims" beforehand and nobody's the wiser.

It could only last so long. Soon after Ol Elf-Brain loses it completely, storms into the dining room, tosses the overseer's keys into my kitten stew, says you're in charge and buggers off. Time to take a look at things.

Well first thing I look at are my new quarters. No room for me forge so I get the miners to dig a place just off the soon to be hospital. Once that's done I take me forge and all the iron furniture down there after it's all prettied up. With me anvil for a pillow I'm all set. Axes and giant sawblades for all! My predecessor had himself a nice set of rooms so I kick the crazy bastard out. Had himself a nice silver coffin too. Mine now.

I continued work on the tower and started construction on a road. Saves me having to worry about dwarven bunions. Near the end of winter some fool went all Armok-brained. Wouldn't have been so bad but the damned fool only made a left gauntlet. Oh well.
Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Spring was quiet. Got started on the hospital so we're good there. Figured we needed some more traps so I took some of me sawblades and parked 'em this side of the bridge. Then the damned elves showed up. So I did 'em a favour and took everything off their hands. No point in wasting perfectly good trade goods on 'em. Summer time better see some excitement is all I got to say. Ain't enough booze in the place to drown me boredom otherwise.

So I'm next? Updates might be slow, I somehow ended up in 2 games in the same week. Look for Spring by tomorrow, I hope.

BlackRogue's Journal:

Summer was a mixed time. The arrival of 24 migrant was mitigated by the loss of six of our own. Their dedication to completing the tower led to them working until they died of thirst. They drink with Armok now. I dug a graveyard just off the hospital and laid them to rest. The sole war dog in the fort is now mine. Her presence does much to alleviate my sadness.

There were some snailmen and slugmen lurking around so I told our valiant soldiers to have some fun. The ease at which they dealt with the problem let's me know that the protection of the fort is in good hands.

It seems the fort has had enough of our current mayor's demands as Minty has been elected to replace the fool. The new mayor has been moved into my predecessor's opulent quarters which seems to keep her from any absurd demands. Banning the export of steel I can understand however as importing seems to be the only source.

My heart is still heavy after the loss of so many so when I passed our valiant broker Snook I handed the keys to her and told her to take better care of the place than I had.
As for me I'm back to me forge. More weapons are always needed.

Shit. There's still two more players before me and this fortress is already bigger than any I've ever had >.<

It will soon be completed. Mwahaha! Also, I'm very sure my dwarf is out for revenge for getting his room stolen. Hurray for insane military dwarves!

Why does Minty's quarters have a long trap-filled hall leading to what i can only guess in the grave room for him?

Heh, that was built by me. So nobody could steal my tomb. Apparently Blackrouge and then Minty did. I must have a word with the mechanics when its my turn again. This discussion will probably occur at the top of the execution tower, right beside the execution device. What could go wrong?   ;D Also, I have no idea whether or not the actual panic room is stocked and ready to function in an emergency. Bloody bastards stole my rooms. I'll have to get some psychotic revenge upon the thiefs. You don't expect a half-crazed dwarf to give his rooms up that easily, now do you?  :P
