In most places where they're defined as separate crimes, assault is basically "attempted battery" - if I swing my fist at you and miss, I'm guilty of assault but not battery. Battery is when someone actually gets hurt, basically.

oh god quit acting like you actually have the power to change stuff.. you're powerless. Life feeds on life, on and on. Cats will surely thrive, and your efforts go with failure. No matter how you try to slice and twist it into thinking that humans are no longer a part of an ecosystem because we can reason, you're only fooling yourself. It's just a much larger scale of "natural" - technology is what nature dwelling humans created. Humans are the apex predator. The earth has it's cycles and changes, we are part of it. The changes would happen with or without us. In the end its the government bureaucracy lust for power and control. Anyone that profits is projected as evil, any path they can possibly take into getting more control whether its via animal control, food regulations, new theory "dejours", etc are all an effort to hate on successful industry in a capitalist society. In example, the dumb ass failing trends that is organic foods trend, and their demonization of farmers that found more technologically efficient methods of creating a crop via genetic (which by the way have been found harmless) are all rooted from up top (usually a government office). See, don't drink the kool-aide.

Just another reason to tax someone from a lousy no good organization such as department of agr or wildlife. Brother got beat up by someone else (A) in his grade at school around 6 separate times, so he tells my mother and the teachers. The teachers don't do anything, and A told B to bring my brother, then beat him up in a secluded place with no witnesses, telling him that this is because he snitched on the violence to adults.
