I have found universities use text books slightly differently to in high school. If they say 'Today we will be going over X' then you can be sure that there is a chapter titled 'X' in your textbook that has the same content but with a bit more detail.
I never really had to even take many notes, I just sort of filled my textbooks with yellow sticky notes and let the chapters be my lesson notes...

Anyway point is they don't directly reference to the textbook, they just use it.

I have no problem withcourses being based off of and/or similar to textbooks; it's when they're outright required to do anything for a significant portion of the work that I'm annoyed. I had a gorram streak going, dammit!

Things like that are the reason why I wait till the first day of classes to order my textbooks, since there are a few different paths classes can go:
1)Not needed - I've had some professors literally say "I'm not sure why they tell you to get this.
2)Supplemental material - This is usually one of the two most common. The textbook isn't actually required for the class but it can be helpful for different explanations if you have problems with what how the professor explained it.
3)Problems Source - This is the other common one, where the textbook is only used for a supplemental material, but all of the problems for homework come out of the textbook. In this case you can buy a cheaper solutions manual and still have all the problems should you wish to do so.
4)Absolutely Required - In this case the professor won't be teaching you what's in the textbook, but still expects you to know this material on the tests. This category is prone to becoming case 2 when professors say they will do this but actually don't. Regardless, the text is an essential thing if you hope to pass the class.

I had a lot of 2/4 hybrids in biology where you'd pass if you just went off class notes but you wouldn't get an A unless you read the textbook because they always had a few questions from it on everything.

Math tends to be 3 in my experience.

English classes don't really run off this system, for obvious reasons. If it has a textbook it's likely an anthology that you'll be reading out of. I had one class with a textbook, though, and the teacher basically taught straight out of it. So I think if you have one in an English class it'll be one the professor really likes, so expect to use it.

You have to pay to get a windows 7 recovery disc.

You have to pay to fix the OS you already bought.

Horseshit.

Eh? Did you buy a factory laptop with a system image on it, an upgrade of 7 from XP, or an actual copy of 7?

If the analyst casually mentions a feature they expect from 7804 based on a conversation they had with someone completely uninvolved in development, a feature that was never in the design document and never discussed with me, the developer, I think I might just snap.

The only good news is that is was split into 4 and 7.

The bad news is it might be closer to 15 but the next 4 are somewhat... ambiguous.
