Yeah, we export a crap ton of the stuff, too.

Makes no sense.

It wouldn't be so bad if there were alternatives to driving in most places. Heck, most streets in my town don't even have sidewalks, much less bike lanes... and people wonder why so many Texans are overweight.

Now I am imagining tubby people in 10-gallon hats parkour'ing their way across the rooftops to-and-fro about town.

My roommate is up to something. He thinks he's being sneaky but I'm already onto him. I think he and I are going to have a chat later.

Is it actually obvious, or is he just constantly failing at subtlety?

He thinks he can say things in the hallway without me hearing. He said something to someone about "Can't show you [unintelligible] since my roommate is probably here". Then he came in doing his stupid weak snicker to himself, grabbed his cigarettes and snuff (yes, he does both), and left.

He's hiding something all right.

Sidewalks and bike lanes are a UN conspiracy.

Our county has a no-distracted-driving bylaw.

People don't listen, though :I

They're probably too distracted to listen.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

I really wish sustainable transportation was a UN conspiracy, then maybe local governments would get some damn funding for their projects. :P

Cars suck. The sooner people are forced out of them, the better :P There will always be country roads or whatever for casual driving. For our main transportation needs, public transit all the way, baby.

Yes I'll take their goddamn strawman position and take it seriously.

And on that note...

Today, I was running a little late for school. No biggie, had happened often before. But that was before I encountered:

THE EXPRESS TRAIN FROM HADES!

It was single-handedly the slowest train I've ever seen. I could walk faster then it. It sped up, and slowed down, as if simply to mock us. It even stopped a few times, actually in a station, as if to allow people to mock us. The worst part came when it stopped,  and started going backwards it was so slow. I am dead serious. The Train, was going, BACKWARDS. And of course, when I got to school, they wouldn't believe me. No other student had been on the train, so of course no one could vouch for me.

I'm going to send a angry letter to the MTA now.

Our plumbing has been backing up the six odd years we've been in this house, and now they can't fix the problem. The military housing's policy on this? Go live in a hotel while a bunch of strangers tear up your kitchen and romp around your house! They haven't even told us whether we're actually allowed into our own house during this time, how long it's going to take, when it's going to happen, or anything, really. Just that we're going to have to stay in a hotel. This is going to wreak havoc on my online classes.

At least they can't take our keys away from us.

I'll give even odds we have cell-suppressing devices in vehicles within a decade.
That's not really viable.

Actually, metal cars were already partial faraday cages.

If the car had a complete faraday cage, e.g. the glass was designed like a microwave oven window, and it was designed properly, the car itself wasn't made of a non-conducting material, and so on, it could be made to block cell phone signals (among other things).
