A lesson I learned as a pedestrian.  You vs a car,  The car is more than 10 times your weight and able to move at a much higher rate of speed than you, and requires more room to stop than you.

Pedestrians legally have the right of way most of the time, but realistically pedestrians NEVER have the right of way.  All the legality in the world just means your immediate family gets a free win in a really expensive lawsuit while you are a smear in the road with a small paper memorial to you built on the side of the road until next time the city mows the grass.   Sad but it's the truth.

WTB Photoshop'd (or actual) tombstone reading "He had the Right of Way."

No, but they can, say, suspend you for demanding it back.

Heck, my school, they'll take it for 10 school days.

Weekends/holidays don't count.

2 weeks.

And that's a first offence. Second offence, it's until the end of the semester. Third, end of the school year.

And there's no exceptions or appeals.

(Or, at least, that's what's supposed to happen. Some teachers are more lenient, and at least one doesn't mind as long as your work is done.

Then again, she doesn't even mind if we glitch our way through the school firewall/blocker. Very lenient.)

Wow, my high school was lenient - it was either until the end of class or the end of the school day (at the teacher's discretion), and that was only if you were actually using it.

Mine was until wednesday, if the teacher wanted to be strict about it. otherwise it was until the end of class.

Tech center teachers on the other hand, don't give a crap if you have it as long as you're just using it for a clock or a calculator or something, not texting or talking on it, etc.

Consider also, that the lenient teacher's room, is a computer lab!

Justified, she teaches accounting...

Judicial precedent says that by attending the school, you are implicitly agreeing to a contractual agreement to follow their code of rules and thus their indefinite confiscation of your property is a legal contractual term that you have consented to. These being the schools that you have to attend or have both you and your parents prosecuted for truancy for not attending, as per federal public education laws.

Sometimes, I really wonder what goes through judges heads.

Kids are property; clay to be molded. Can't let those silly rights as human beings and citizens get in the way of that.

But the optimist sees injustice as something discordant and unexpected, and it stings him into action.

Probably the same kinds of arguments that go through their heads on the subject of prisons. On top of their societal and legal responsibilities, they're institutions, objects of tax dollars and profit engines too.

I wouldn't worry too much. The Supreme Court will shoot this thing in the face faster than the title can be read. The fact its so far-reaching and includes so many provisions basically creates holes that any 1st Amendment-minded justice can drive a truck through. It's typically the fate of bills like this that get rushed through. They aren't conceived even carrying about whether or not it will survive a constitutional challenge. The House isn't concerned with whether the bill is constitutional, they just want to get it out there and into the higher levels of Senate debate. I think only the Entertainment Industry is truly banking on every single person being asleep at the wheel or in their pocket.

I know it'll be blasted in the face by the Supreme Court, but someone actually has to bring it up to them first, correct?
