Which one? Awakening? Is this because of your hatred of anime? If it is you might wanna try one of the GBA FEs. FEA is the most anime out of all the games. It also has the most simplified gameplay. Cut out some of the mechanics from earlier entries to reduce the difficulty level... though it might be still too anime for you. If it is then wait for Codename STEAM to come out probably sometime next year. It's made by the same people, is basically a steampunk X-Com, and uses an American Comicbook inspired art aesthetic.

... man, all this love and understanding silliness. Here I was expecting tiru or someone to respond to that by bursting into the thread with a mighty JAFFA KREE or something. Instead reasonable responses and no rightful burning of the heretic. Disappoint, 2/10, will not expect again.

Seriously though you play fire emblem while cheating. Infinite weapon durability, to start. That makes everything wrong with it, better. Or just go read the LPs. They can get pretty nice.

I think it might have been, it did seem a lot worse than I remembered Fire Emblem being when I played one of them on Gameboy once.
Also the problem with some of the recommendations here (Codename STEAM, Jagged Alliance, and X-Com) is that they require playing on my computer which is kind of a pain since it doesn't work terribly well, even for low-graphics games.

Also I was kinda hankering for something medieval-themed. I'll look into some of these games anyway.

Oh Codename STEAM is a 3DS game. Maybe Tactics Ogre is worth looking into? It's feels Final Fantasy-ish because FF tactics pretty much ripped it off, but the tone from the one I played was really gritty.

if you want tactics you either go for classic gold or stuff like xcom ironman impossible long war turn limit 2min or lower

I really shouldn't be fighting the urge to quit my job 5 seconds after walking in the door, but today...

First thing my boss tells me is a claim that she did my job(which takes 1-1.5 hours) in 30 minutes, then demands I do it in five, along with claiming bullshit that I spend most of that time standing around doing nothing.

What IS your job? Not bashing you, just wondering.

Also, with all the work BS, you could just quit, theres nothing keeping you from quitting (other than maybe tough job market) and you don't have to put her as a contact or anything.
