Hi everyone! This is my first forum game that I'll be running. It could be a disaster, but who knows? It could be a lot of fun! Who wants to try it with me?RebellionWelcome to the year 2332! When the United Star Empire landed on our world of Drayton, five years ago, they brought with them technology, medicine and hope that our lives would be prosperous. Now The USE is wracked by rebellion and war. All the resources we have are being taken off-world to fund the war effort, and our people are starving. It's time to take a stand!
Every player is a resistance leader in the Drayton Revolutionary Freedom Force (DRFF). Your main goal is to cast out the oppressive and out-of-touch United Star Empire from your homeworld for good. This task won't be easy, you're outnumbered and out gunned. And the Star Empire doesn't look kindly on rebellion. If you try to push them, expect them to push back.
What you do have is knowledge. Knowledge of the planet and knowledge of it's people. The citizens of Drayton will see you as heroes and freedom fighters, but be careful. The publics opinion can change rapidly if you allow too many civilian casualties in your raids, or simply from United Star Empire propaganda. This isn't just a war against soldiers, it's for the hearts and minds of everyday civilians.
BackgroundBy the early 22nd century, Earth had developed it's first functional FTL technology. This led to a golden renaissance for mankind. Over the next 100 years, dozens upon dozens of worlds were colonized and eventually terraformed, thanks to the development of new technologies and AI that were able to jump ahead of the main colonizing fleet.
What happened next was a little sketchy. What is known is sometime in the period of 2245-2255, a great catastrophe fell on the entire Human race. Research points to an extremely potent virus being manufactured, first infecting AI systems, then spreading to almost every computer network in known human space. How such a virus was manufactured, or who made it, is still unknown. But this period has become known as the Dark Ages, where technology was completely erased for one reason or another on almost every human world. Billions died, as people succumbed to the famine, or the cold. Some colonies vanished entirely, their biodomes venting atmosphere as the virus shut down their life support systems.
It wasn't until the 24th century that mankind was able to return to the stars and begin reclaiming what was rightfully theirs. A small coalition of planets, that escaped relatively unharmed, banded together, forming the United Star Empire. They took it upon themselves to return technology to their lost brethren. Exchanging technology and supplies for entrance into the Star Empire and protection, many agreed it was a good exchange.
Five years ago, the USE reached Drayton. When they arrived, the planet was in a rather sorry state. A population numbering close to 100,000, from an estimated pre-catastrophe rate of 50,000,000. The terraformers on Drayton had failed early on. Leaving a basically breathable atmosphere, but poor soil for growing. The planet simply could not support the large population and many died. Those that did survive huddled in the giant dead cities, designed to house much larger numbers. They are ideal to disappear in.
Recently USE rule has become increasingly unpopular. Several wars with other human factions have left little resources for the civilian population. Food riots are now a common occurrence in some of the larger cities as there are never enough rations or medical supplies to go around. The Star Army garrison stationed on planet seems to get first pick of all supplies that do arrive and leave little for the rest, shipping the rest off from the new Star Port constructed by the USE when they arrived.
The PlayersThe Players will each take on the role of a resistance fighter leader. Each player will start with control of one platoon of resistance fighters. At the start you will be poorly trained, and equipped, but as you wage a successful guerrilla war, your fighters will gain experience as well as scavenge or buy new weapons, vehicles and equipment. Perhaps you'll even find old technology lost before the great catastrophe!
I will accept up to SIX players. If there ware more people interested they will be placed on a waiting list. Waiting list applicants are more than welcome to join in the RP, but they will not have command any final say on how the Revolution proceeds. Perhaps you're just a grunt or an NCO in one of the current players platoons. I will most likely allow more than six as time goes on.
When space opens up either from a previous commander dying, or new forces being recruited that need player leaders they will be promoted to have their own command. Current players will also have the chance to be promoted as the game moves on.
Everyone is human. AI is currently illegal, and untrustworthy. Most people would destroy it on sight.
FINAL NOTE: I'd like this game to be serious please. Dedicated players who enjoy putting RP flavour in their turns. Try to keep the stupid actions to a minimum!
Application SheetCharacter Name: First Last
Strength: TWO areas where your character excels, could be anything, remember you're not just leaders of soldiers, but the Drayton people. (eg. propaganda, espionage, logistics, scavenging, tactics, medical)
Weakness: ONE area where your character could use some work. Try to keep it relevant to a rebellion
Background: Why is your character fighting? Is he native to Drayton? What did he do before joining the DRFF? This stuff is important as it will give me an idea of what extra stuff to give your character (it could be equipment, bonus abilities or something else!) so the more time you spend on it the better!
Turns:Each turn represents about two weeks game time.
Each character will have control of one platoon to begin with. They are then free to dictate where their platoon will travel and do for the turn. It could be anything from raiding a USE supply depot to feed starving civilians, to strapping a bomb to a freedom fighter and having him assault an USE checkpoint, to simply combing the ruins for abandoned pieces of tech to either research or sell. The GM may also offer up targets of opportunity that the players are free to follow up on as they see fit.
please bold your main action after your rp text so I don't miss it!You can also take unlimited RP actions, which could involve meeting with fellow resistance fighters to discuss a coordinated attack, gathering intel on a specific target, or speaking with smugglers about getting some black market assistance. Once all players have declared their major actions, the GM will conduct any combat and conflict, taking into account the rp situation as well as player abilities and equipment. Then write up a summary for the turn, including new equipment found, casualties taken and experience gained.
There will be a group equipment and force pool that will be updated at the start of each turn. It will be up to the players to decide which group gets which equipment, as there won't be enough for everyone to have everything. In cases where two players want the same thing, the GM will have the final decision. Equipment that was scavenged on the field will be kept by those who found it.
Okay, questions? Comments?
Current PlayersPlayer: Phantom
Name: Phantom
Strengths: Espionage and Marksmanship
Weaknesses: Repairing, Stealing.
Background: Phantom (Refer to Phantom only as Phantom.) was the 27 year old son of a businessman and a woman who worked as a computer programmer. He was often known for coming into places with people barely noticing, and leaving without anyone noticing, hence the name Phantom. Got fired when he tried to work as a car mechanic and he was later caught stealing tools form it later. He usually spends his time hanging out with friends, or going to the shooting range. Other things he usually does is camping, running the hell away from assholes who annoy him, and reading and writing. 1 more thing, he trained in the army for 10 days until his dad found him, in which his dad convinced the military to take him out. Oh and he was fine at playing string instruments.
Personality: Usually a cheerful and happy guy, jokes around a lot. Has minor anger management problems. (This is basically my real world personality.)
Appearance: Black, clean cut hair, light tan skin, tall. (And that was what I really look like. A tall filipino dude.) Usually wears an olive drab cap, gray shirt and urban camo pants. Sometimes prefers the body armor that he took of a dead military soldier, but it is shoddy and in complete disrepair, but somehow it looks fine. Probably won't stop a bullet unless he finds a real suit. (Think my avatar.)
Bonus: Your reputation and skills have given your platoon the reputation of commandos. Your team has been equipped with USE F-56 SMGs(bonus to attack) and several sniper rifles to complete this role.

Name: Alexander Chernekov
Strength: Propaganda and scavenging
Weakness: Medical
Background: A 23 year old Drayton born man. Possesses a great love for his homeworld. His family traces their heiratage to go back the the country of Russia on Earth. When he was young, he frequently scavenged and sold various techs to aid his family, who were very poor. He found himself to be very talented at influencing people, often using it to get good prices for his scavenged tech. Has joined the resistance in order to stop USE control of Drayton and stop the resource shortages they cause.
Bonus: Your platoon sees you as a man of the people. In turn, they are more willing to make sacrifices to ensure a victory for the DRFF. This translates to a bonus in morale when you need it most

Personnel: 30
Weapons: R-12 Combat Rifles
Extra: Broadcast Equipment
Armour: Flak vests
Experience: Regular
Ammo 3
Player: Mainiac
Name: Skye Nobody
Strengths: Scout, Scavenger
Weaknesses: Civilian Dependents
Background: Skye has lived all her life as one of the Rubble Rats, a semi-nomadic 'clan' that lived in the deserted urban area's of Drayton. Long before the USE showed up, the Rubble Rats eked out an existence in the shadows. The urban jungle of the ruined cities was their home and the rats knew both city and country as well as anyone. When the USE took control and the shortages started, the Rats and many other gangs were forced to chose between rebellion and starvation. Four years ago, Skye's uncle, Max, launched the first gang raid on a USE warehouse and the Rats have been on the run and in defiance ever since. But now that Max is dead, leadership of the clan falls to Skye. With supplies stretched painfully thin and many mouths to feed, no one is more dedicated to the fight.
Bonus: Your platoon knows the ruins of Drayton like the backs of their hands. You will receive a bonus to operations and ambushes taking places in these areas.
1st Company, 3rd Platoon, the "Rats"

Player: Archangel
Character Name: Scar Bloodhand
Strength: Combat, Tactics
Weakness: Persuasion
Background: Almost no one knows much about him, though he is surrounded by frighting rumors. He is an impressive figure, massive and battle scarred. His knowledge of military tactics is astounding, has never been bested in a fight and is known to be armed with military grade rifle and pistol and a decent quality, home-made, short sword. He lead one of the most powerful gangs on Drayton until the USE showed up and decimated them. The survivors of his gang holed up, licking their wounds and waiting for a chance at revenge.
Bonus: Your experience and reputation have helped you train your platoon to an excellent standard. Your troops begin as seasoned. Civilian and USE alike will be intimidated by your appearance.

Player: The Anus of Discontent
Character Name: Kelvas Krinim
Strengths: Persuasion (Talking, explaining, describing, charisma type stuff), and Scavenging (finding useful stuff and using stuff to its fullest).
Weakness: Zealotry (So devoted to his cause that he is sometimes driven to radicalism)
Background: Kelvas fights for the slums of Drayton. Raised from a young child in the rubble of the world, Kelvas learned at a young age how to survive. His entire life, he's scraped by on a measly existence, living life day by day. Over the years, his street smarts have given him almost unnatural confidence. This aura of determination and willpower makes him almost imposing. His voice is unwavering and his smile is heartwarming. This master con-man has been using his recently acquired charisma to further himself financially. However, he's begun thinking of pursuing a career in politics. He's decided that the best way to put his skills to use would be to help his people by having their needs met instead of the agendas of wealthy politicians. He heard about the DRFF through a friend, and has been obsessed with joining since. He feels like this is the organization he needs to get his start and begin changing lives.
Bonus: Your charisma has given you a silver tongue and you are a natural leader. People enjoy doing you favours and you're much more likely to convince DRFF and civilian populations to do as you ask.
2nd Company, 2nd Platoon
Personnel: 30
Weapons: SMGs, 4x AT Launchers, 1xAres, 4x LMG
Extra: Food x 2, R-12 Combat Rifles, 2x Prisoners

Player: Acanthus117
Character Name: Anya "Warhammer" Kowalski
Strengths: Tactics (organizing groups, battle plans, etc.), USE training (knows of USE standard protocol, maybe can train men quicker/better... up to GM)
Weakness: Bad Reputation (she's known for being part of Shadow Corp and killing plenty of rebels), Speechcraft (she doesn't care for politics much; she's a do-er rather than a talker.)
Background: A former member of the USE's armed forces, Anya once served in the infamous Shadow Company. She carried out dozens of the group's infamous operations, systematically crushing rebellions and oppressing the unknowing populace. Disillusioned by the wholesale slaughter of a civilian populace of one unruly planet, Anya began to vocally oppose her superiors, which ended in her getting demoted and sent to Drayton. She was shot and left for dead in a gutter a week later, avoiding death by a hair. She then joined the DRFF, intent on getting back at the USE.
Personality (more for RP purposes): Anya is a tough woman, straight to the point and is constantly focused on her job. She may seem harsh, even cruel, but she does have a heart, and will go out of her way to help civilians who are caught in the crossfire.
Appearance (again, RP): She's an attractive young woman in her late twenties, with blond hair and hazel eyes. She exudes an aura of control and of grave intensity, and moves with an almost stiff seriousness. She usually wears a combat jumpsuit, and keeps a high-power sidearm on her at all times.
Bonus: Your combat skill and USE training have allowed you to train your platoon to a higher standard than most. Your platoon starts as seasoned, and recruits will will start with higher training. However well-trained as they are, your men still don't quite trust you. You will have to win them over.

Armour: Flak vests

Player: maxicaxi
Character Name: max Kvistberg
Strength: medical and tinkering
Weakness: sheltered life
Background: he was born as a lone child into one of the richest families on drayton and he from a very young age liked to tinker, taking things apart and putting them together better. his parents refused that he became a mechanic so he casually went to school, and got a medical degree. then moved away from home so he could tinker in peace. disaster happens his father was found to have been supplying rebels with weapons food and money and that his ancestral home was bombed, killing his family. he then joined the resistance.
Bonus: Your tinkering skills have given your weapons an edge over factory produced equipment. Your weapons seem to fire faster and more accurately. You have also been assigned a converted supply truck to assist with repairs.
3rd Company, 1st Platoon
Personnel: 30
Weapons: Small Arms+, 2x Ares, 4x Mica Mortars
Extra: Generator
Armour: Flak vests
Experience: Regular
Fuel 2

vehicle: 1x Mobile Repair Truck
Player: Grek
Character Name: Doctor Evan Watts
Strength: Medical skill, Respected
Weakness: Pacifist. Him and all of his platoon are sworn pacifists and will not resist the opressors using lethal means. They will use tasers, beanbag rounds and traq darts, but they will -not- kill.
Background:
Evan Watts was a doctor of medicine and the owner of his own fairly large clinic before the rebellion. When the rebellion started, he treated both DRFF and USE members without consideration or favour. This did not indear him to the USE and they ordered his clinic seized. Dr. Watts only barely escaped with his life when the USE goons knocked on his door. Ever since, he has taken the code name "The Good Doctor" and assisted the DRFF as much as his medical ethics would allow.
Bonus: Your medical expertise has been noticed by DRFF command. They have agreed to the pacifist nature of the platoon, and placed all those who are against violence, though they lack experience. Your platoon has been given a mobile field hospital to assist the civilian population and other DRFF forces.

vehicle: 1x Mobile Field Hospital, 2x Dune Buggies
Player: Digital Hellhound
Character Name: Eamon Valda
Strength: Logistics, USE Knowledge (knows how the USE works and has direct connections to important USE personnel)
Weakness: Combat, Wavering Loyalty
Background: Eamon Valda used to be a high-ranking bureaucrat working for USE, but was one day lured away by promises of money and power from the DRFF, and has come to regret this later on. Valda is a coward within and has never fired a weapon in his life. He rarely actually plans any attacks himself, only very rarely raiding USE supply depots and such. While he understands logistics and keeping a massive army fed and happy, military tactics escape him completely.
Valda and his entourage keep the supplies and equipment of his branch of the DRFF in good order, and possess a remarkable collection of local maps. While disliked, most people admit his efforts are often vital to DRFF operations.
Bonus: Your platoon has little experience, and they don't trust you. But these are both things that can be fixed over time. However, they always seem to have first choice of new equipment. Many people are admiring your platoon's new Combat Armour. They've also had a platoon of supply trucks permanently attached.

Player: Ghazkull
Name: Yngvi Hrôkr
Strengths: Tactics and Scavenging
Weaknesses: Cruel, Mercenary
Background: Yngvi was born on Niflheim in the Yggdrassil System. The Ygdrassil System was only recently conquered by the USE and that only after long and bloody skirmishes and even then the System was only nominally belonging to USE territory and still governs itself. The people of Niflheim are a highly militaristic and hardy folk barely surviving on their ice world by raiding(like the other peoples of the Ygdrassil-System) neighbouring Systems. Since the war with the USE the Ygdrassilians needed other ways to sustain themselves and therefore many resorted to work as mercenary. Yngvi was one of them. While the Ygdrassilians are highly prized as mercenaries and the USE makes excessive use of them they are feared for their cruelty.
Especially the people of Niflheim are known as ruthless, bloodthirsty butcherers. Born and raised in a militaristic society, Yngvi was a born Soldier and tactician. He took joy in the violence of wars and battle. He even rose to the rank of a captain with his own ship in the ranks of the Niflheimian Fleet. But everything changed after the war with the USE, the left overs of the fleet should be confiscated. A sacrileg in the eyes of the Niflheimians as every captain has to pay his own crew and ship and on every ship the captain is a king. Yngvi was one of the first to flee the sector and work as a freelance mercenary beyond the grasp of the USE. In the chase for old tech to help the Ygdrassilians and give them the weapons to free themselves of the USE, Yngvi has lost his ship and his crew and above all he landed on the backwater planet of Drayton. Here he accepted to join the Drayton Rebels in exchange for all the old tech he could find.
Personality: Although from a dark and icy planet as Niflheim, Yngvi is an optimist. He has a cruel and black humor, drinks too much and is generally indeed very loud. But although he lives up to his heritage of cruelty and senseless violence he is trustworthy and fiercely loyal to the death(if you manage to gain his trust). This may however change completely in battle. There he becomes the bloddthirsty, innocent slaughtering beast the Niflheim warriors are renowned for. He cruelly uses the enemies weaknesses to achieve the greatest pain for them. Civilian lives count nothing. the lives of fellow soldiers count nothing. Only victory is then important for him.
Appearance: Blond long hair, reddish full beard with blond streaks, pale skin, nearly two meters tall.Green Eyes. He has a giant scar going straight down the right half of his face. He likes close-combat and always carries the traditional one handed war axe the warriors of Niflheim use.
Bonus: Experience in previous conflicts have made your soldiers seasoned. However your team are mercenaries and do not feel as attached to the cause as native Draytonese do. They will not fight as hard if they are taking heavy casulaties unless their lives are in danger.
