Started playing with the Darth mod, and damn is this game even better. Harder, due to such things as a fort having a decent sized garrison to start (making it more difficult to bum rush neighbors who leave their cities undefended), but much better.

I love Darthmod in general, except for the unit garrison script.  I just think it gives far too many troops, to the extent that you can pretty much defend against most attackers with only the troops it gives you.

They should just scrap sieges all together, they just aren't that much fun after you have seen 20. Open battles would stop the endless turtling on some fronts with the AI just losing wave after wave on the fortress walls. That would also lower the amount of bonuses (cheats) the AI needs to be challenging.

I like sieges actually, open battles annoy me because the AI insists on reorganising and adjusting the lineand running and its far to much fucking about before the actual fight starts.

My only real problem with sieges is how awful I am at actually getting my troops over the walls. I'm sure it's just cause I'm crap, but unless I have serious numerical superiority my men just get into a clusterfuck and cut down.

Haha, it's called a "siege" for a reason. :P You're supposed to siege the enemy!

Sieges rank among my favorite moments. There's something exhilarating about taking an enemy stronghold, or holding a fort.

My first multiplayer battle was a siege... I was attacking, and somehow managed to win, despite having nothing but ashigaru spearmen and a few bow samurai. I maintained the majority of my force at one choke-point, and finally managed to route the enemy by keeping his general away from his men with my archers... It was a good battle.

It's also incredibly fun to throw most of your force against one side of a castle while sneaking a bunch of ninja right behind the masses of infantry waiting to be exploded. Bonus points if you capture their towers and gates before they can react.

I'm okay with land battles as long as things happen quickly. Naval battles are fun for me, because I'm actually good at them, or at least I'm good at them compared to other people. I've lost count of how many people have rage quit when I was winning overwhelmingly, even against superior ships. Good times...

Really, there's only two ways sieges ever go down. I have an overwhelming force, and so I attack because screw waiting. Or, I have an evenly matched force so I siege them to starve them out and they attack me the moment I end the turn. My biggest issue with sieges is, really, myself. I'm just no good at them.

Best part about sieges? Having overwhelming amounts of archers.

Thats just a screenie i've just found. I have one of a general receiving arrows off of six different archer squads at once, but its not on steam and i'm late, so that's what you get XD

I started playing the rise of samurai campaign after one test battle. I bought incredibly bad infantry (naginata levy morale 4!??) and good archers and samurai cavalry. Inf started running almost the instant they were charged and the whole army except cav routed. I managed to win thanks to my cavalry though. In the campaign I've been creating uber army of samurai's which should decimate any opponent.

Ya the only way low morale infantry can be useful is if your general has a number of morale boosting effects on nearby units.....

I don't remember having problems with levies...  since I tend to bolster their lines with samurai...?   Or are some particular levies just worse then other levies when it comes to morale?

Some are worse, but I do believe that having a strong unit nearby, aka samurai, bolsters morale.  I am also pretty sure that having a unit on your side that is doing quite well in the fight increases everyone morale a bit, so that probably couvers the levies from routing.

Yeah, if your infantry consist only of units with bad moral they'll break like a shot. If low moral units are used to bolster numbers, that's a different story.
