Yeah, I beeline for the literature provinces too. 33% increased research per province? Yes please.

I build monasteries constantly. I only have a few specialized cities that produce great units and then the rest I dismantle unnecessary weapons buildings in order to build monasteries.

Yeah, I have the habit of only ever making real units at a place with a blacksmith or other similar bonus.

And is it just me or does Oda not get Nanban Trade Ports?

Might be that you have one already from some province you captured. For some reason the game won't let you build more than one. I think you get to build more once you convert to christianity, but I'm not sure, I've never tried it.

You don't get to build more as a christian, unfortunately.

Yari ashigaru are awesome at ambushing. Being sieged by a force 10x the size of mine, and they've parked their generals in the woods where my ashigaru were reinforcing from.

Needless to say, all generals died and I won :D They managed to block off the main exitway of the enemy too, so each ashigaru unit got about 600 kills :O

(there was 3 units)

Isn't that just that the AI makes stupid mistakes occasionally?

You know what I think is one of the most irritating things of battles in this game (aside from the extreme low number of maps, that is)? Not getting to position my troops after the enemies while siege-defending. That makes no sense at all.

Yes, It is irritating, but at the same time I could argue for both ways.
It's usually just a minor inconvenience as you can get your troop in position before the enemies arrives.

I said occasionaly, And I think that earlier in this thread I agreed with someone who said that the AI is better than the previous TW games.
I simply ment that it isn't Yari ashigaru thats awesome at ambushing but rather that the AI fought your spearmen in a forest with cavalry which is rather stupid.
Just like that I had a siege defense where the AI didn't work properly.
I sent out a Yari cavalry on the east side while their main force was on the west side. nearby the AI had 2 Yari units and a katana cavalry, which I charged and broke off from before the infantry could engage and send my cavalry to the west on the back of the fort.
As the AI was already climbing the walls with all their infantry I was able to charge and kill one general and then scare off 4 yumi ashigaru.
Except for the generals, the AI was completely ignoring my unit and didn't send any troops to help nor shoot at them with the archers.
Why? I believe that the AI Included the two Yari units from the east of the map in its calculations, and as they were in pursuit(but still far away) it did not send any additional units.

I like the game, just not the bugs and the shitty naval battles.

While I agree there are bugs, my experience has been entirely different from yours. I've found naval battles very fun, and I always get irritated that the AI lets its generals sit out of the range of my fire in fort sieges like a player would instead of charging blindly in and dying.

Something I've noticed. Elevation does not seem to increase the range for archers which I'm almost certain that it did in past TW games.
Nor does fighting downhill seem to give any bonus or penalty to the opponent other than they are slow to get up.
Or am I wrong?

you're wrong.  It doesn't give a noticeable increase, but it increases it a bit, more so for better archers, and fighting downhill gives a massive charge bonus, attack bonus, and also greatly decreases an enemies defense and charge.  I've won battles where i would have die without the high ground, aka 500 versus 1500 type battles.
