I wonder if someone else ave him the quest, or if it's just something he needs to do.

Well, my heroine has been kicking ass. But if I use encourage and don't heal her, she complains.

Mine is trying to build a temple an failing pretty hard.
The scene described, remembers me of when Rincewind tries to build his own wizzard tower, while sleepwalking.

Heartwarming isn't it?
