Forsaken by Armok
« on: May 16, 2010, 09:37:26 pm »

I'm out on assignment again this week and I bravely loaded my fortress to my slow old laptop.  To my amazement, it was running quickly.

But alas, Armok has turned his back upon me.  This computer does not have a numeric pad.  The + and - signs next to the top row of numbers do not work to shift my menu choices up and down.  No DF for another five days  :-\

Rebind your keys good sir.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

You can rebind your + and - controls to something else, in-game or directly to the text file.

All you have to do is change these settings in your interface.txt.
Code: [Select]
[BIND:SECONDSCROLL_UP:REPEAT_SLOW]
[KEY:-]
[BIND:SECONDSCROLL_DOWN:REPEAT_SLOW]
[KEY:+]

To something else. Like [ and ].

Code: [Select]
[BIND:SECONDSCROLL_UP:REPEAT_SLOW]
[KEY:[]
[BIND:SECONDSCROLL_DOWN:REPEAT_SLOW]
[KEY:]]

go to \dwarf fortress\data\init\interface.txt

In there, find these strings and make these changes:

Quote
[SECONDSCROLL_UP:F1]
[SECONDSCROLL_DOWN:F2]
[SECONDSCROLL_PAGEUP:F3]
[SECONDSCROLL_PAGEDOWN:F4]

I too use a laptop and these are the keys I use for the secondary scrolling.

EDIT: Ninja-ed!
EDIT2: Huh. Weird I don't have those text strings you list above in my interface.txt at all!

That is a wasteful idea that recklessly endangers life. I applaud your genius!
There are as many ways to play the game as there are socks on a battlefield.

If you used the brackets themselves as a way of indicating the key in 40d, you'd simply break the interface because DF reads them as code, not keys. I think there was a special way to indicate them.

Aye you need the keyboard number. For example space might have a keynumber of 112.Don't ask me how to find out which is which, Im just regurgitating what I've seen elsewhere.
