I tried Double Swords for the first time and was really impressed. They're fun and deal a fuckton of damage. I'm still cautious cause I've heard they're bad due to their all-offensive nature in a defensive game, but I'll see if I can make them work once we get the full game

There are quite a few other issues then that and often they end up doing less damage then other weapons because of their weaknesses (unable to do location damage in a game where legs are almost always the strongest body part for example). Yet they have their place.

Sword and Shield is my favorite but that one is ENTIRELY useless outside fighting ordinary enemies... and by useless I mean every single weapon type in the game is supperior to the sword and shield.

Aren't SnS super for elemental/status damage?

They get the highest boost but other weapons can do damage better and as for Status because of how the game works a weapon that does more damage but less status is still supperior.

It's entirely possible to beat the games using only SnS. I've done it, twice.
As far as I'm concerned they're an excellent jack-of-all-trades weapon. You get high mobility, you get dodging, you get blocking, and you get to hit things way more often (which is good for element/status, since they're applied per-hit, and also good for sneaking in a few hits during short windows). Also, at least as of Tri they let you use items/torches with your weapon drawn, which is great. Pretty much all they can't do aside from weapon-specific gimmicks like charging is reach tails on tall wyverns.

In the first game they were pretty underpowered (though not as terrible as dual swords) but they've seemed much more balanced in Tri.

Anyway, what do you think are the chances people will figure out a way to sneak you into online multiplayer on your 3DS version of MH3U? I'm not buying a WiiU any time in the foreseeable future, but if they can go online with a WiiU app it should be possible to bluff it using a normal computer, right?

I am glad, though it is still considered to be the worst weapon I like it for its flexibility in that it can go with whatever the game throws at it.

This new version looks really great, I wish I had a WiiU so I could play it. :(

I played the demo on the 3ds, not having any experience at all with  the series.

The demo itself has no tutorial, so when I went in I was like... wtf am I doing? What does these buttons do? Where do I go. So I run around lost smacking small stuff thinking "well, this is pretty hack and slashy, where's the loot?" Then suddenly I got smashed so hard by an unseen thing I flew into a loading screen. So I was super goddamn pissed and ran back into the other room from where I got smacked from.

Giant yeti thing. I guessed that was what I needed to kill.

Wow, I never expected the fights to be so challenging. It was superb. It's definitely not a hack and slash at all, more of an action brawler. It really lives up to the "monster hunter" name as you are literally hunting the monster. After I wailed on the yeti thing a bit it smashed me into another wall, then ran away to another part of the dungeon. So I had to track and chase it around, finding a way to pin it down while damaging it. I got really concerned about how I couldn't tell whether I was doing any damage or not when I noticed that parts of him were damage and he was acting really weird after awhile. It was only then that I realized he was getting progressively injured!

When I finally took him down I was like "YEAH! IN YOUR FACE YOU AGGRAVATING PRICK!!!" Was a really good feeling. Definitely buying this. Being able to play a game like this portable is really nice.

Ugh, I really want this, but I don't have a Wii U and the 3DS version just doesn't look as cool. :(

Guess it's time to throw my wallet at Nintendo again.

One of those days a game developer that doesn't hate money will make a good clone of this game for PC, maybe  :'(

And it's going to be F2P with paid content like... autoblock gems!

Autoguard makes shelling with gunlance easier.

I went back to FU after finishing the village quest in P3rd. I kinda missed kut-ku.

So, anyone able to say how much content ultimate has compared to Tri yet? I'm still not sure if I should get it, since I'll probably be getting 4 when it comes.
