Okay, now we're in 19th century. Quite possibly middle 19th century, given than in previous comic 'Miss Langdon' was supposed to be old woman and the general look of the cop scene was victorian era already.

The question is: how far backwards in time we will go, and is it possible to extrapolate the approximate century of last strip based on how many comics left in this chapter?

Let's see (below are my assumptions):

1: Week ago: Eglamore sleeping at Jones'.
2: 5 years ago: Nice times on the hill.
3: 10 years ago: Eglamore the jealous.
4: 20 years ago: Eglamore the teenager.
5: 30 years ago: James the kid.
6: 70 years ago: (presumed) factory bombing during ww2.
7: 90~110 years ago: Langdon scandal.
8: 120~160 years ago: Langdon estate got.

We're in the middle of the chapter and we got ~150 years into the past.

Someone on the GC forums fit the timeline so far to an exponential curve, so if that holds up we'll be in the Middle Ages in about two comics.

I've seen that curve. Imho, it curves upwards too fast. And the people there assume 3x each time-word, forgetting that it is 16 strips per chapter, not 10.

1x week, 3x years, 3x decades, we can assume 3x centuries, and then what?

Jones the Egyptian?

EDIT: And they also assume that Jones is 'currently' in states and that Old Langdon guy is Samuel Langdon from late 18th century, completely ignoring 'previous century' box on top-left of latest strip. Honestly, such blatant !!science!! errors...

And then the author would stop shuffling around with Jones' background or have gotten to 'Wandering Eye' before the end of the chapter?

So far, I found that only Egyptian mythology has any 'Wandering Eye' inside it (daughter of Ra), so ancient Egypt by the end of chapter is quite a possibility.

I doubt she's straight-up from existing mythology. Tom stated she's his own creation, after all.

Jones the Egyptian?
Well Tom did say that Jones can speak ancient egyptian fluently here.

And while I think Jones might have been potentially inspired by the wandering eye mythological figure, having read several of the myths involved with the figure I extremely doubt that they are one and the same.

Well, yes, but if you've lived for several hundred years, I suspect you would be fluent in quite a few languages too.

Don't the Copt still speak it as their ceremonial language?

Well if you count Coptic as "egyptian" (being a modified form of ancient egyptian), then there are still a few fluent speakers around today in the Egyptian Coptic Church (which uses that as their liturgical language). The last true egyptian language (with hieroglyphs and what most people would think of as "ancient" egyptian), died out 'officially' around 700 BC, almost 1700 years before Coptic even existed (1st century AD).

Okay, but you get what I mean. Since Ancient Egyptian died out around 700 BC, she wouldn't just pick it up through a couple centuries. A bunch of centuries, maybe, but not a couple.

And 700 BC would be 700-800 years before 1st century AD.

My bad. I had a brain zero addition when I was doing that. And I agree with you, seeing Jones the egyptian would be sweet.
