Are scourges usable by Dwarfs? What about pikes? I like the idea of pikedwarfs.

Also, is there an easy way to get everyone who is not military to sit still and quiet inside my fortress? Like a quick order? I tried assigning them quickly to burrows, but that didn't work very well for me.

All weapons can be used by dorfs, assuming you can get your hands on them. Some of them must be held in 2 hands, however.
You can mass assign civs to specific burrow with 'm'ilitary -> 'a'lert
Actually, a good number of weapons are simply too large for a dwarf to handle. (which makes no sense, since you can swing around a dragon corpse in adventure mode)
Some usually unusable weapons may be wielded be extremely large dwarves, though.

Also, for tree farming, I have noticed that nobody has mentioned that the caverns must usually be breached for trees/shubs to start growing.

Thank you for your answers. I forgot to post the question in 3, but that is exactly what I wanted to ask.

Regarding 1., the dwarf in question wasn't assigned to any burrows and he already has everything that's on his list in the workshop, listed as a task (TSK) material. There's at least 3 more of each of the needed materials available in the fortress and when I forbid one either of the ones in the workshop, he will go and get them instead, but he won't start the construction no matter what. Is it possible he's trying to get some specific material that's on my forbid list (as in he needs limestone, so he won't use quartzite instead)?

Regarding 2., my main question was whether flux stone slabs can still be used as a flux material in the forge.

And another question. Does the size of the barracks and the number of squads attached to it play any role in their training (as long as there's obviously at least 2 squares/dwarf)?

And one more. Is it possible for an underground lake to dry if it's edges reach outside the embark site?

Unfortunately, you can't.  Once flux stone has been made into a slab (or block, or furniture, or other stone item) it can't be used as flux any more.  This doesn't make any sense, since you should be able to smash the stone material up and use it as a reagent in steel making no matter what shape it's been made into, but DF doesn't have quite the level of material-based crafting to recognize this yet.  You also can't use wooden furniture or other wooden items as a source of charcoal.

Have no idea. What kind of a mood is it and what's he asking for?

Regarding 2., my main question was whether flux stone slabs can still be used as a flux material in the forge.
No, only raw stone (not even blocks)

And another question. Does the size of the barracks and the number of squads attached to it play any role in their training (as long as there's obviously at least 2 squares/dwarf)?
technically you can have a 1x2 or even 1x1 barracks (they become friends, so don't do this) but I believe they well gain an "admired a fine barracks lately" thought.

And one more. Is it possible for an underground lake to dry if it's edges reach outside the embark site?
no, water fills in eternally

He's possessed. His workshop displays: cloth...thread, stone...rock, tree...life and leather...skin. He's got a single bauxite rock, pig tail fiber cloth, blood thorn logs and shark leather listed as TSK components.

If you have Genesis mod, you can dismantle stone and wooden furniture into its base components.

he still needs stuff. he needs cloth (more, probably silk if you don't have it), then he'll grab more stone, logs, and leather.
or was this displayed, and not any more? if so then... shit.

Yeah. I've already prepared a special casket just for him. I've got silk (one thread, but I do and it's not forbidden). I'll check if collecting more threads change anything. Maybe even save the game, lower the bridge and let the goblin FUN overcome my fortress just to check if he'll actually try (and die trying) to collect more materials.

Edit: Just checked and he's still not moving. Even more so after a goblin helped him about a minute after the bridge was lowered.

This. And also, sometimes they need more than one of the same type of thing, and you can't tell, because that item type just stays on screen a bit longer. This is especially annoying with cloth, because sometimes it looks like they just need one cloth item, but really they want one of silk and one of not-silk.

Which is more effective? a team of partially adamantine clad dwarves or a single, full adamantine armoured leader with a bunch of expendable back-up?

===

= = wall
x is where  the pile of stone is and the bridge drops on
D = a door

its trigger by a lever  and when it hit the pile noting happe's

does it matter how much stones are on the pill? (now here are around 2000)

i first just made a big bridges in an open space but that just made the stone go everwhere around

Are you sure you made a raising bridge? Maybe you made a retracting bridge by accident.

Wow, I just turned fps on and uncapped (because it was annoying me flashing between 99 and 100 about 100 times a second), and on the title screen it stays stable at 141,000 (goes as low as 100,000 and up to 240,000), why is that? (this is just the title screen) Shouldn't it have a little bit of common sense programmed in?
