My mechanics won't work in the mechanic workshop to build a mechanism. I have mechanics with "no job" and with a build mechanism job in the shop.

Do they have the mechanics labor enabled?
Is the item the workshop's made of forbidden?

No. I figured it out. I forbid the workshops when I forbid surrounding items (I needed them to build it out of magma-safe).

Only the mechanism in the floodgate, not the lever, has to be magma-safe, right?

Alright, I'll apply some more patience and make the world smaller and younger.

I'll report back with results.

Thanks again.

Did my well overflow? I had a well built over an open space. The water was delivered there using a floodgate, but the water originates at a much higher level.

Yes. Wells don't block water.

Yes. Wells don't block water.

So Dwarven pressure can actually push water up from a lower level?

Yup. That's really the entire point of water pressure in this game - to force it where it isn't wanted.

What does a brewer with a strange mood want? What workshop? He doesn't claim the still.

Magma doesn't pressurize the same way as water. To lift magma you need a pump stack.

EDIT:

Can underground FBs move into the map from underwater? That is, can I secure a cavern by walling off the map edges connected by ground tiles?

Your probably just going to need to build more workshops till you hit the one he wants.

Legendary booze would be pretty awesome though.
