I currently have a fortress in a world without dwarves.
I just noticed since I had to check the history because no migrants showed up(I'm in year5)
However i had 2 waves of 2 dwarves each in the first 2 years.
My question is: Is the number of migrants related to parent civs or do they just spawn?
It would be very bad if i had to regen.

Could someone remind me, how to strip caged gobbos from their armour and weaponry?
They are residing at animal stockpile now. Tried [d]esignate - [ b] [d] over their cages, but it didn't work as intended.

Migrant amount is typically a result of export through to the mountainhomes. I just got 23 migrants, with 15 original dwarves, after exporting a few thousand dwarfbucks worth of stuff with the dwarven caravan. Prior to exporting anything I got waves of 4, 3 and several 0's.

It's the same as in 40d.  You can only do it from the stocks screen.  Go to the stocks, then look under weapons.  Press tab to get a complete list of all individual weapons.  The gobbo's weapons should be forbidden - you can unforbid the weapons and then dump them.

However, if there are merchants with guards on the maps, their weapons will also appear forbidden on the screen.  I'm not sure if your dwarves will try to steal their weapons or not.  It's kind of a PITA, but you can always tell which weapons belong to who by using the zoom to items command from the stocks screen.

Most probably you have to change the keybindings.

You know, they could teach maths like this at school. "There are 105 dwarves in a settlement. A goblin invasion appears and 67 die. Then a migrant wave..."

You need to either designate(d) an up stairs area(u), or a down/up stairs area (i).
Then you can mine out the surrounding stone.

Also, having multiple stairs next to one another is a good idea.

Pretty sure it's the same as the last version, A blue stone.

When do the traders come? I only got Elves in the second spring, and we're in the third year and I've seen no sign of the Dwarves.

You should check whether their civ exists at all.
Dwarfs usually arrive at late autumn and depart in early winter here.

I checked the civilization screen, and my dwarven civ exists, but has no important leaders. I got two small waves of migrants the first year, and none since.

ya, and sometimes you have them making other lakes on the same level, due to that, since they are connected by corners.

oh and how do you get military dwarves to train?
