I'm having some problems with my stockpiles at the moment - I have around 500 bars of various types sitting around in my smelters, with almost everyone having all hauling labours enabled, but there's still no movement.  I had designated a pile before, but I got rid of it and defined a new one, and still nothing seems to be going on.

Also, I have two dwarves stuck in cages due to a recent ambush, and I'd rather like to get them out, since I think they're heavily injured.  I've built the cages and un-assigned the dwarves from them but no-one seems to be doing anything.  Do I have to enable animal care/trapping labours to get them out?

Any ideas?

just attach the cage to the lever and order it pulled
that should open the cage and release whatevers inside

Argh, I have a problem.

I build a magmaworkshop down below, and a stairway through the cave to get there. I built a wall around it to protect my dwarfs.
But now a Blind Cave Ogre, stands outside the walls and my dwarfs are stuck down there, since they can't move by the stairs.

Shouldn't it be so that the wall protect them and they would be able to go without being scared? :/
Right now they've started to starv and thirst.

I've tried to dig a new stairway but to no luck.
Any help?

Now I get flooded with "Interupted by Blind cave ogre"

I don't know if it matters but the wall is just on the first Z-level. Not all the way to the seeling of the cave.

I am running the Genesis mod, but I don't think that has to do with anything.

As I asked you in the mod thread, are you sure they have an access to the staircase? Could it be that you've blocked the access with the said magma furnace?

And I replied to that :)
They have used the stariway flawlessly before, its just now when the Ogre appeared.
The forges aren't even in the same "room" as the stairway.

Then I missed it. Probably they somehow see the ogre. They can't look ABOVE walls, that's a definite matter.

P.S. Post a screenshot of the area please.

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

and two Z-levels above I see this

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Might it be that I don't have a wall all the way to the top of the caves?
But my dwarfs are 4 levels down and still "scared" I can't even try to dig a new tunnel, since my miners are stuck down there to.

Ah, they probably see them because they are visible atop the wall.

And of course they cannot move through this staircase because those ogres are visible FROM the staircase. It has no walls.

Just put a marksdwarf there.

P.S. Why do you have wrong d_init settings? It should be [VARIED_GROUND_TILES:NO], but you have it set to yes thus you see "," on the ground instead of the ground texture.

Argh, I've set two of my military dwarfs to carry crossbows, and they are. I have bolts.
But still they have that "Cannot follow orders" :c

Marksdwarfs will pick up quivers automatically if you have them. If you don't have any, make some at the leatherworking workshop.

Everyone in my Fortress is obsessed with this event. Dozens of engravings throughout the fortress show this event, and it is on many artifacts. Why are my Dwarves obsessed with a minor event from a completley different species?
