Yeah, down is the new right.
So hang on, if you embark on the west side of a very steep mountain...
You have to dig downright.
Outright.

Anyone notice how forgotten beasts are called "Uninvited Guest"s on the units panel?  :D

Are forgotten beasts just in the caves or are they from the HFS? I haven't found one yet.

Also, do migrants come earlier in this release? I got some before the first fall dwarf caravan even.

Yes, they do. They're also more useful now.

Also, I just breached an underground cavern and started farming it, and now there are ominous red shrubs appearing everywhere...

they attack from pretty much anywhere a cavern goes off the map. they might even come from above ground, but I haven't had that happen yet. I've had three of them now, but none of them came until I had a decent sized poppulation (40 or so) so I think there might be a popp based trigger.

Forgotten beasts seem to come similar to how megabeasts come, but from caves rather than from above ground. I concur about the pop trigger; I got my first one at around 50.
And migrants now come earlier, and can come every season.

Oh, and goblin-cap underground trees are awesome. Red wood ftw!

Just found an interesting creature... A "Molemarian," a monster with the body of a giant mole-rat and the torso of a mole-rat man. Their symbols are a red M, just like magma men.

And some blind cave ogres...

I haven't been able to get any vomit this release. Not any I can pick up, at any rate.
Swans, too. Swans are complete bastards.

I guess I haven't played long enough to encounter any forgotten beasts. I've pretty much just been punching straight to HFS heh.

Also, yeah migrants are more useful. I've been getting tons of metalworkers of all kinds! It's awesome.

Darn it, this is the first time I have found it, but that is too cool. I mean without question too cool.

Darn DF, why does it need to keep getting better!

In the days when Sussman was a novice, Minsky once came to him as he sat hacking at the PDP-6.
“What are you doing?”, asked Minsky. “I am training a randomly wired neural net to play Tic-Tac-Toe” Sussman replied. “Why is the net wired randomly?”, asked Minsky. “I do not want it to have any preconceptions of how to play”, Sussman said.
Minsky then shut his eyes. “Why do you close your eyes?”, Sussman asked his teacher.
“So that the room will be empty.”
At that moment, Sussman was enlightened.

They come with actual skills now, as opposed to before when they lacked usefully high skills at all.
All of mine seem to think Cheese Maker is a backup job, all 15 i've gotten have skills and some level of skill in cheese maker as well.
