They have a breeding pair of elephants for sale.

If I can buy them my meat problems will be solved FOREVAH

also, HOW DO YOU MAKE LYE

Why would you buy them when you can have them simply surrender the goods?

There's a "MAKE LYE" button in the ashery. It might require ash from a wood burner and/or animal fat.

You know, the training system is really strange.  My militia commander teaches, and there's a select few dwarves that seem to want to learn from him.  However, all of these dwarves are just dabbling at whatever he teaches.  The ones who practice on their own, and never go to any lessons, are the best trained of them all.  I've also yet to see dwarves spar.

I just had a rather sad moment in my new fort, which started right on the brink of a massive magma pipe. The pipe's edge is like four tiles away from a sand wall with a laaaarge murky pool behind it. Obvious course of action - let water form some obsidian coverage over the pipe. So the miner goes and digs, and soon there's steam, and... cave-in. Well, not too unexpected I suppose. Now, where- whuh? "You discovered a great magma sea!" "You struck raw adamantine! Praise the miners!" What the?!.. oh. Stray cat (tame) has bled to death.

A small cave-in has knocked one of my pet cats into the pipe, and it uncovered the entire thing as it fell. Plus three pages of mineral announcements, and two separate adamantine deposits. I guess the only thing I can do now is dig down to the aquifer and start project: Deep Core.

How good is the militia commander?

He was the best dwarf that I had when I assigned him, but that's not saying much.  I should probably fire him and get a new one.  You think rotating commanders would always be the best solution?

Bomrek: Wow Urist, that's a pretty deep hole.
Urist: Yeah, I know. Wonder what's down there?
Bomrek: Hold on, let me find a coin or something.
Urist: Don't bother. (Grabs a cat and tosses it down)
A long, low screeching sound is heard for a full minute, before abruptly stopping.
Bomrek: Huh, sounds like magma.

It was full to the brim, mind you. Just how a cat managed to "see" in magma remains a mystery.

Yes, the cat "fell" through 120-something layers of magma, and only then died. Tough critters, them.

It didn't reach the bottom though, it bled to death. The bottom of what I can see is a dozen levels lower, and I can't see if it's actually the bottom.

I love the fact that this version, so far, feels like the old 2D version only with z-levels.
