We do not speak of that. That is how [Snowbox Feetpod] did the unspeakable thing.

I was about to say necromancers are all friendly and only reanimate if provoked so fighting their zombie horde is just fighting off the mass even more wimpy zombie collection.
that said if you yield and walk in after murdering all their undead chances are you could just get access to reading their books or recruit a fellow necromancer.
do demon forts still exist in the caverns, do anyone go into the caverns?

Those citadels with the upright weapons do not. The only (legitimate) ways into hell now are spires. Demons there aren't recruitable, even if you have a demon master with you.

Went to a necro tower, was pleased by the newfound relative ease of slaughtering the corpses. Read a necro-codex and am now immortal.

What do you guys think, should I stop the menace of the necromancers or leave them be? They were all weirdly cool and did nothing to impede my progress in reading their books.
Mod in genitalia. Geld all the necromancers. Then stuff said genitalia in a cup and make em drink it. And the best part? You dont have to kill them!
Just make sure they can't raise the part.

If you are a ghost you can recruit demons to go dance and travel with you... they quickly forget and start murdering once you get them to the surface though.

sadly you can't do that in vanilla. ghosts don't automatically unlock the ability to play the adventurer and seems like reanimating the body makes a new unit than what not.
I could be wrong and the testing went horribly wrong where the adventurer's body was missing and might be needed.
though I wonder if wagonmen could talk to demons as they kinda fall under the "no one can really attack them." stuff that ghost should have.
now I remember ghosts pop up in the unit list twice so adventurers might be stuck in the dead unit body(which prevents them from being playable) while the game creates a new unit with all the characteristics of the old one but as a ghost undead.

so the next thing I need to see is what happens if you resurrect an adventurer while their ghost is lingering about?

Wagon men would probably have a similar ability.

You have a death record listed so you can't load as your ghost, gotta clear the death first otherwise retirement deletes the playable character.

No time for weapon practice, I cannot fuck around with this concentration of brutes, I have to hack them down quickly. If I got a little more serious and switched back to the pick, my companions wouldn't all be disabled in one way or another. They're getting tore up here, and I'm getting a little worried about their survival to the next moon.

Especially the Dwarf, who seems to be the preferred target, so he was the first to lose use of a leg and an arm. At least now they're biting him where he's lost all sensation, and he's biting back. I'm still on the fence as to whether to welcome him into the wereclan. Everyone is exasperated with his argument, and I've even seen a tavern keeper go enraged with him. Unless I'm itching for argument myself, I just roll my eyes and flatter him whenever he starts his bullshit with me. But he's always good for practicing my persuasion and flattery, and getting my dose of argument whenever I need it.

I staked my claim to a lair of 34 brutes while they were away, and now I'm playing King of the Mountain with them for the rest of the morning. Ambushing them in singles and small groups is much safer than invading their homes, and much easier than scrambling around their hunting routes for them. Digging their interiors wider makes them more manageable when they do get inside, fortifications give me a good view of their approach and rooftop exits give more directions to attack quicker. The defense is rather porous compared to a fortress, but it works while the enemy is scattered rather than invading as a unit. But if hypothetically an organized group attacked it, I have the squad flexibility to get out and flank them from surrounding terrain.

A pack of 11 dingos jumped on my character while camping and trying to get some sleep and two of them were giant dingos. Been waiting for this scenario for days now to happen in the game! I didn't even need to use dodge or block while surrounded, instead I kept charge attacking while using either the bronze shield or the bronze greataxe like a minotaur, hacked and slashed, charged and sliced, punched and kicked. My Dingoth was like an unstoppable force of nature just like I intended, am more than confident about taking on that dragon tomorrow. Now if I only knew how to see the whole battle log on screen as it got quite lengthy and the mayhem was worthy of Khorne.

Ahh... that sure felt good. 8)

Purge the night trolls. Dealing with two of them. Snapping necks is my go-to tactic.

I've got a good one-shot rate with the knife, it's just that I overestimated most my companions and focused too much on trying to cover the Dwarf. He's the least capable, yet the most targeted. I swear they home right in on him; they don't even know him like we do, they just despise him on sight. But the rest of the companions still can't handle highly concentrated groups, so trying to get trolls in groups of 8 or more when they're in their own home is especially hazardous. Taking them out before they reach home works quite well.

I've already cleared the one that was home to 34, and laid down hardwood floors on the ground floor, added a kitchen and bedroom. The roof has a glass shelter over the whole thing, and it's partially tiled in woodblock and features a still. I don't know what I'm doing with the middle floor, but the basement has the workshops.

After clearing the rest of this area, I'll spend the remaining time til the next moon between this home and the major retreats, because no one but me and the Poet are ready for an extended overland trip. Then we all go on a Wild Hunt together.

Wait, how'd you lay down hardwood floors, kitchen and a bed room in adventure mode?

I can do almost everything a fortress dwarf can do. Requires dfhack, which isn't updated to 42.06 yet.
