I was practicing archery against the wall of a keep in the wilderness. (This was in order to take advantage of the exploit allowing arrows not to break if they hit a wall over open space. Wilderness keeps often have hills nearby that allow easy practice against high walls.)
Anyway, by early afternoon I had gotten into the habit of quickly picking up each individual, unbroken arrow in a flurry of button-pushing. I got careless, however, and didn't stop my manual keystroke sequence when there were no more arrows left. Since lighting campfires shares the same menu as picking things up from the ground, this caused me to accidentally create a ring of fire all around me, trapping me against the wall of the keep.
I tried alt-move; I tried dumping a bag of water on the fire; nothing will put these damn fires out or let me out of the impenetrable fire wall spell I've penned myself in with. I can't even cheat and go to the fast travel screen, because I'd have to move away from the keep first. If only we had the same abilities as dwarves in dwarf mode, I'd have been able to dig my way out.
So here I am now, in the dead of night, huddled against this bloody rough realgar block wall, sweltering in the heat of five campfires while the snow falls around me and the moon slowly sets, dreading the moment when the night creatures come and cursing my carelessness. I don't even have a full coat of armor yet, but at least I have legendary wrestling and master-level dodging.
Wait, what was that noise?
