Inspired by Monster Island, I made the next-best thing. Now running around clothed only in the blood of a number of creatures, naginata and dirk in hand.

I went to a keep, killed a bandit leader and his two goons and then I took their money. And shields.

Then I bought a copper halberd with the money I got. My plan is to wait for a full moon, head to that werebeast's lair, and chop his Little Orphan Annie head off. But not before letting him bite me.

Inspired by a certain scientific forumite...

I am endeavoring to alter the workings of Necromancy to cause zombies to take on explosive properties a la thermonuclear catsplosion. Originally it was just to put the enemy necromancers at a disadvantage so I could steal that blasted secret slab for once, but then I realized it had awesome potential for a genuine mod, as a separate power.

... Now, how do I mod the raws <.<

Wanna guess how?

Stuck in an endless loop where you endure the same day every day?

... Pretty much, actually.

That battle was more than one day/night cycle.

Though I see what you did there.

I was practicing archery against the wall of a keep in the wilderness. (This was in order to take advantage of the exploit allowing arrows not to break if they hit a wall over open space. Wilderness keeps often have hills nearby that allow easy practice against high walls.)

Anyway, by early afternoon I had gotten into the habit of quickly picking up each individual, unbroken arrow in a flurry of button-pushing. I got careless, however, and didn't stop my manual keystroke sequence when there were no more arrows left. Since lighting campfires shares the same menu as picking things up from the ground, this caused me to accidentally create a ring of fire all around me, trapping me against the wall of the keep.

I tried alt-move; I tried dumping a bag of water on the fire; nothing will put these damn fires out or let me out of the impenetrable fire wall spell I've penned myself in with. I can't even cheat and go to the fast travel screen, because I'd have to move away from the keep first. If only we had the same abilities as dwarves in dwarf mode, I'd have been able to dig my way out.

So here I am now, in the dead of night, huddled against this bloody rough realgar block wall, sweltering in the heat of five campfires while the snow falls around me and the moon slowly sets, dreading the moment when the night creatures come and cursing my carelessness. I don't even have a full coat of armor yet, but at least I have legendary wrestling and master-level dodging.

Wait, what was that noise?

It could be worse.

I'm stuck square in the middle of a frozen ocean. And summer is coming.

I actually know now why you sometimes get encased in ice when sleeping in glacier regions...

Vast sections of ice spontaneously melt and refreeze, creating a fissure in the center and a wall of ice above the level of the surface ice in that section. I've witnessed it twice thus far... Making me considerably more paranoid than I had been earlier.

Spent a looooooooong time travelling to the lair of a titan.

On the way lost all my companions, got attacked by a lot of bandits, crossed a lot of rivers. On one of my final river crossings my legs and feet took a battering from a horde of angry milkfish, meaning i could no longer stand. My bronze halberd was also lost.

I made it to the titans lair, and slew him regardless. Mainly because all it took was 2 silver arrows thrown at him, I knew he was gonna be a crappy titan, i just knew it. It was so far away and that's just typical for this game. However there was plenty loot at his lair, i came out encased in steel and iron... and a bit of bronze and copper. Armed with a silver bolt in each hand i made for the nearest town to retire, 2 alligators came at me on the way. One i quickly dispatched with a stab to the head.

The other killed me, horribly. Damn you Milkfish!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I started as a dwarven peasant with an iron shield and steel battleaxe, and managed to barely hack my way through several giant creatures and about a dozen assorted night creatures. A shadow horror managed to bite me in the upper body and tear it apart pretty badly before I could hack his head off, leaving me with a massive jagged scar. I then was attacked by an alligator and just made it out of the river before he could bite me. As soon as he got on land I knocked his teeth out and strangled him to death. Upon nearly reaching the capital of the faction I was in to get a real quest, I was attacked by a large group of bandits... the "Chances of Disloyalty". They had 2 Elite swordsmen and the leader was an elite crossbowman, who shot me through the head as soon as I moved. I HATE bandits in this version.

Managed to find and kill a necromancer in a human town. He must have been visiting family or something?  :) Anyway I took his book, read it, and attained the secrets of life and death. Cue hilarity! I came back at night, and crept into a house. I used a hammer to bash all the residents inside the home to death, then raised their corpses. Then I moved to another house. The zombies swarmed inside and proceeded to bite, punch, strangle and scratch everyone inside to death. I then raised those corpses too! I repeated the process several times, ending up with a collection of 50 zombies, along with assorted animated hands and arms! And a few pesky livestock too. Then we went exploring the world, me and my 50 new stinky friends. We got ambushed in the wilds at night, by a -gigantic- number of kobolds. A massive battle ensued, zombies vs kobolds, limbs flying everywhere, kobolds dying, zombies expiring. Then, some pesky little kobold shot me with an arrow. Two more arrows hit me, so now I had an arrow lodged in my leg, and two in my lower body. I fell to the ground, watching as the battle raged around me. Oh, my zombie friends, we had such good times together. Then a kobold got a lucky hit and slashed my throat. Although I managed to kill the kobold, I promptly bled to death amongst an epic pile of corpses. DF rules!

Today I killed my first vampire. She had an -elf bone crown- on her.
I'm never taking it off.

...or the -human bone amulet-
...or the -goblin bone ring-.

Later I'll drink her blood to turn into a vampire myself.

Good news! I waited and waited, and the fires eventually all went out at once. Grabbing my chance, snatched up my backpack, ducked through the smoke, and felt along the rough stone for a door as quickly as I could. I found the entrance after rounding only a single corner. I didn't ever find the keep proper in the dark, but I did find the entrance to a wall tower, where I finally collapsed in exhaustion.

I woke up in the snow outside the keep walls at dawn. Apparently they don't like vagabonds there. But I never did hear the evil giggling of the bogeymen that night, so it appears I got the last laugh this time. Back to the grind!

Okay so how exactly do you all start with the build of your adventurer? do you start as a peasant and work your way up or start as a demigod? usually i start whatever the middle option is but it seems to me that whatever my first quest is i always lose in battle to it, am i doing something wrong or is this just DF? I put points into a fighting style and sometimes armor and have a good stats in the top five str, agi, etc.. I suppose im just complaining really, and looking for any tips. Thanks!
