It's not cost effective to have giant armored vehicles anymore.

It's more cost effective to have lightly armored crap with lots of firepower wandering around. War is not even fought by the largest firepower and biggest weapons anymore (as Iraq and Afghanistan have shown). It's battles between mobility, information/intelligence, and ideologies.

Same reason why sophisticated battle armor hasn't become widespread. It's more cost effective to train/have a new soldier than create expensive powerarmor suits (although some have supposedly been used). Sad but true.

True, but it's not even power you need anymore. It's precise accuracy.

Wiping out civilians is bad, and we're trying to avoid collateral damage in increasingly population dense areas. Nowadays you don't know where the bad guys are, or who the bad guys are.

Such are the woes of modern warfare.
Well, sometimes I ask myself if it wasn't better in medieval times.
Of course, not really, but if you think about it, it's a more 'practical' way of battling and, supposing that there is no Raping And Pillaging afterwards, more secure for the civilian population (since battles usually broke up after far less casualties than modern ones.)

Let us not forget the Kalinin K-7, a bomber that appears to have cannons on its back.

Because the Russians are sick of the Japanese getting better than us at what we are good at.

That whole thing is one big WTF!?
Much like the Spruce Goose.

Heh. I bets its engines are for emergency propulsion. It actually flies by firing its cannons backward.

I think the cold war was the only war ever fought by trying to out-cool the enemy instead of actually fighting.

Vietnam, Afghanistan, Limited Conflicts in Mongolia...

They didn't fight each other. But there was a ton of fighting.

At a Secret CIA Meeting, Cold War

General Bigwig:  Alright, so we've armed and trained Afghan militants to fight the Soviets and created an illegal drug trade that will siphon millions out of the surrounding countries, including ours, to pay for it.

Agent McAgent:  That's right, but I wonder...  What are the odds that these people we're training will try to hijack our planes and stuff later when we cut off our support?

General Bigwig:  Pff, like that'll ever happen.

Well, it's not like in the 80s Rumsfeld and the Reagan administration didn't sell chemical weapons to Saddam that the Iraqis used on the Kurds and Iran. And then we justified our 2nd invasion (oh hello again Rumsfeld you gigantic asshat) under pretense of WMDs... no wait I mean freedom.

Sorry bout that guys. Our government are a bunch of douchebags. :P but I digress.
