Succesion game Speakerrings.
« on: March 02, 2010, 09:28:32 pm »

Well, I'm a novice at forts, but came across some semi-good ideas to set them up (including a Planepacked set-up, which actually kind of works into the fortress) and wish to see how fast they collapse in a mess of violence, death and fire successful they actually are.

I want a few participants, like, six other people would be fine.

I don't have much idea on how to use the worldgen on detail, so if someone tells me how to get somewhere more-or-less decent to embark to I'd be grateful. Or someone could gen it then pass it to me to start it off.

Whatever works, oh, we need some sort of rules, right. Well, we should agree on something -trivial things like ditch the anvil? Rise all the way to challenges?- once we gather players.

Anyone up for watching a trainwreck building a fort this way?

Because dwarves are goddamned crazy.
So, basically, it is just a matter of luck whether you live or suffer horrible death... sounds like dwarf fortress.

What exactly are the specifics of what you're wanting to do? Because I can't tell.

Well, as to what I want, it's to see if we can make a memorable fortress, which means we need magma, lots of magma, and demons. Y'know, typical fortress fare.

Let's see how long and large can we support the fortress, name dwarves after ourselves and perhaps roleplay it a bit. Post stuff here, and see what kills it first, mismanagement being so entertained that you forget some stuff, demons having too much fun with the wildlife, goblins having too much fun with the neighbours, tantrum spirals, partying too hard. Again, typical fortress doom Fun.

To this effect, I wanted to see what is considered "fun/Fun" here among forum-goers (some mods like Dig Deeper and such), so that the world can be genned accordingly. First I wish to see if I can get enough interest, start up, then see if we can get some addintional people.

Sindain, do you want something specific on your dwarf?

I guess I'll give it a stab. I've never really looked at Dig Deeper, though, so if we're going to be using that, expect either slow updates while I work to understand everything, or for the fortress to crumble during my turn.

I've never tried a succession fort before but I am hella interested, especially with Dig Deeper being in the mix.  I'm sensing a good deal of Fun.

Well, it was only an example, if people like Dig Deeper, then sure, why not? It's what the people want.

What kind of world should be genned? I don't know much about that, but I've read that the map area size and the embark area size affect computer performance somewhat. Plus, there are other things to consider before/when embarking (biome, for example). If someone with more experience could help with this it would be a lot of help.

Ideally something with magma, flux, and adjacent to at least one hostile civilization, for Fun. Running water is a plus too.

As for what size world? My preference would be medium. Big enough for some interesting history to happen, but not so big it slows my computer (which is admittedly a piece of crap) to a crawl.

My preference for an embark area would be anything from 2x2 to 4x4, honestly. Again, my PoS computer makes larger areas a real burden, but I could put up with playing a large area for a single game year.
